Sketch - Brax, former assassin

Featured Replies

Here's a quick (20-30 minute) sketch I made of the main character in my little story (see link in sig). No relation whatsoever to the *other* Brax, who is my D&D character.

That's how I see him post-Chapter 4. I might sketch a pre-Chapter 4 one at a later date.

Constructive criticism is greatly welcomed!

hm, the folds in the cloth really throw this for me....they look like lumps or something...needs work there.

The face is not well defined either.

There is a nice element in the firm shading.

holy crap man, that sucks...go take intro to art once again, and then take it again to be sure!!!!

shadow3000: I asked for CONSTRUCTIVE criticism, you dolt.

On-topic, yeah, I'm still trying to get the hang of how cloth works, as well as facial structure. It'd be so much better if he had full plate armour... :?

try tight leather, or maybe leather/chainmail mix.

I would've, but Chapter 5 wouldn't allow it... :x

you're the author. MAKE IT WORK

looks nice with the shading only beef i got is with his feet the boots dont seem right to me

Don't let the jerks get you down...just needs some refinement.

Also, the guys face looks like a a character from Neverwinter Nights.

Or is that just me?

But I still think it looks great

work on his face and anatonomy.

and am i the only one who doesnt like the shading  not that i can shade good myself with pencil.. but i cant see you really put effort in it? it is as if you ignore the presure on your pencil in some parts.

A pencil drawing! :)

A bit too heavy on the muscle detailing and shading methinks.

The amount of muscle detail you're trying to show would be hard to see through almost any sort of material and the jacket seems to go from a loose chest to skin tight round the arms to a loose cuff at the ends. Slightly loose all round would be better I think, with much lighter and more subtle shading to indicate muscles. Less muscles would possibly be good too.

It seems a little odd too with legs and arms bulging with slabs of muscle and having a normal looking torso.

Heres a sterotypical "I dress in spandex picture" for reference on things for tight fitting stuff over muscles:

And heres someone familiar in a slightly loose fitting something and still able to have a decent feel of the sinister.

The boots, particularly his right, have a certain sockness about them.

They should be given well-defined soles and should not go inwards like that around the ankle after staying the same width up the calves. Slim down the boots around the lower half of the leg so they are the same width as around the ankle.

Keep up the drawing :)

I disagree, I think the shading took MORE effort and time in this pic. It's a technique in itself, and I don't think the shaded areas were done so by accident. The final effect is very cool. Not realistic, but very cool.

The drawing itself is alright, the cloth lines in the pants are distracting.

You want criticism, so I'm gonna give you some; The thighs are completely unrealistic. I don't know if you haven't seen a muscular person before, but there aren't three sections in the thigh like that....

Then again, looking at it the whole leg is a bit screwy, calf needs to be longer then I almost understand the thigh, but in reality that isn't what a muscled leg looks like
