The new Runescape Chat System! UPDATE #2

Many of us have wanted a chat sytem in Runescape which allows you to join multiple channels, and so I have made a suggestion of how to actually do it. Also, this, to me, seems actually plausible and I can't see how it will burden Jagex's database too much.

Isn't it annoying how when you are trying to add ranks, the member HAS to be on your friends list? Well, I have two ideas to make that not so big of a problem. The first one is that you can just add in anyone to a rank, regardless of whether or not they are in your friend's list. The second idea, if, for some reason, Jagex does not wish to allow you to add anyone, is that anyone above a certain rank (YOU decide the rank they have to be) can add someone else to their rank or a rank lower than their rank. Whoever they add has to be on THEIR friends list too. So think about it: if you add ten people to a rank, and they each add ten people to a rank, a total of 100 people are ranked.

The following is a picture of the main "Chat Setup" menu

The following is a picture of your "Clan Chat Setup" menu(There are two menus: The MAIN one is the "Chat Setup" menu for which the picture is not done. From the "Chat Setup" menu, you can access the "Clan Chat Setup", which lets you set up your OWN chat)

~~Update1~~

Well, as I said earlier, I was going to add a setup for the "Chat Settings" menu. The picture will be coming soon, so please, just read on. First of all, there will be an option that will let you split clan messages, like you can split Private Messages(PM's). The color of the clan chat would be different than that of the Private Message text, probably red. Secondly, there will be another option. This option lets you receive all of your chat from the various channels regardless of if you are viewing it's chat menu or not. This option should really only be used when the channels you are in are not that talkative; otherwise, you could be getting so much text that it would be impossible to read it! Lastly, I there should be an option which lets you view who is exiting/entering the channel. To people like me, that often don't pay too much attention to the list of people in the chat, especially when it is over 2 screens large, it can get annoying when you're talking to someone when they just left 10 seconds ago. Or maybe you just want to know who's in for how long, and how often they enter (without constantly looking at the list of people in the chat!). With this, it makes your chat experience much more organized. Combining these three will give you even more accessibility to your chat!

For the main chat screen, I have two possible ideas. They are both very similar, but one supports more channels.

The first one is:

The second one is:

NOTE: For the images, please don't mind what the tabs say. I know they are the same, and I will fix them later. Just look at the colors of them :D

Now, to explain both of them:

As you can see, the main chat area is a lot different! There are a lot of tabs, and the users list is smaller, and there are three buttons!

First things first: See those tabs? There are either 6 or 8 of them, which means either 6 or 8 channels. I may change this in the future so the number increases. Anyways, the red tabs indicate that that channel has had a change since you started to view another channel; it can be something like a user typing something new or a new user entering/exiting. You can only see the people chatting on the tab which is clicked in. Furthermore, you can only type text into the chat that has a clicked in tab. The users list is somewhat simple, so I will not explain it. The three buttons are somethings which are important. The first button, "Join Chat" lets you join a chat. The second button lets you leave the chat which you are currently viewing. The third and final button is called "Chat Setup". I changed the name from "Clan Setup" to "Chat Setup" because I will eventually add an idea which changes that menu, as well. Also, when "clan" is clicked in, you will not have to type the slash, which can be quite annoying. In the pictures above, the "All" tab was clicked in, so I had to type slash. Sorry if that confuses you. I'll fix the pictures later. Not only will you be able to customize your channel, but you can set preferences of the chat which will definitely make your chatting experience a better one!

This thread will be edited as I get more ideas. Please give me constructive criticism!

The only issues i can find are well, it only takes one second to change channels. and like now, while u may be in multiple chats, while u switch from one, then u will be missing whats in the others, plus since like now everytime theres a new message it shines blue, having alot of those turn blue or whatever, may or may not cause serious lag, not sure, happened once to me while on AIM. Otherwise.... Its a good thought......
