Mining Etiquette???

Okay....I am f2p and have as of late started mining coal and iron to make steel ....the iron is not a problem, but the coal is another thing altogether. I have had good experiences where I will be mining 4 rocks, someone comes along and I then split the rocks with that person, if a 3rd person comes, we each take 1 and the 4th rock is fair game....you get the idea, everybody gets their coal, we usually have some nice chat whilst we wait for the rocks to regenerate and then we leave when we are full. Then there are the rude ones who see you mining and just jump onto the same rock you are mining ...sometimes you get the ore and sometimes you don't....when you suggest to them splitting the rocks they can be rude and basicallly immature about it. I guess what I'm wondering is:

1)is there any generally accepted etiquette?

2)what do you do in these situations?

3)Are the P2P worlds any better?

I am considering a membership just to play with people that may be a little more mature, but not sure if it is the same everywhere.

Some people have good etiquette, some dont, you can mine any rock you want to, but it is polite to share and not hog all of them.

Just hop worlds, or if you have a better mining lv, mine all the rocks they go to until they leave =P

They are only better in a sense that there are more places to mine so you get spread out more, but there are still jerks no matter which game you are playing.

Those with it will hop, but with mining very few people are nice. It's probably the worst skill for people doing that, a big reason i hate it. Mining lacks etiquette.

Hop, or get a black mark for cussing =]

3)Are the P2P worlds any better?

Slightly. But there are more rocks so people tend to be gits less since they can go somewhere else. f2p is horrible for it, p2p is a lot better but far from perfect.

Not really if ppl wanna be jerks about mining then theres not much to do

like the previous posters have said hop worlds and if they insult saying "rude" comments then report them.

I got member for the same reason (to mine gold tho) and it didnt really help much a large group of ppl still try to hog the rocks u get instead of getting the other one available.

1)is there any generally accepted etiquette?

Not really. However, the mining guild often shows more courtesy to others in both f2p and p2p. Basically, more rocks give more opportunity for mining and less competition for rocks.

2)what do you do in these situations?

Depends, either I switch worlds or I hold my ground. Some mining areas are often crowded and I know that switching won't make much of a difference so I hold my ground. If my mining lvl is much better I'll stick too. Otherwise I'll switch. I feel no pride in defending a mining spot, I only care about getting as much ore as possible in the least amount of time.

3)Are the P2P worlds any better?

The p2p worlds have much more rocks. But some spots are always crowded, such as the rune rocks.

As a general note I think that competition for rocks is really part of the mining skill. It is different from wc and fishing for a reason. Mining is a pretty hard skill to lvl, so once you achieved a good lvl, use it! I generally don't share rocks with players who have much lower mining lvls, simply because I can outmine them very easily. Mining is slow enough as it is, and I'm not letting the sharing of rocks slow me down even more. If you feel like others are rude by taking "your" rocks, improve your mining lvl.

"My rock, your rock" only works if everyone sticks to it, as it is the most ordered arrangement.

With a few players, "area control" often develops, where a player can keep a number of rocks "down" as they appear.

The least ordered etiquette is "first takes" - if there are any spare rocks, then you do not mine a rock that someone else has started on.

When it gets busy, every man for himself, or go and do something else with a better hit rate.

1)is there any generally accepted etiquette?

The only etiquette I know of is simply common sence, if there is plenty of the type of rock you need, dont mine a rock already in use. If there's only these few ones, change world or compete for them if really needed.

2)what do you do in these situations?

I usually outmine anybody that trys to steal *My* rocks :XD: They eventually go away

3)Are the P2P worlds any better?

You will find the same players, but there are many more places to mine

Part of getting a high level is the ability to knock out people who do this... The p2p mining guild's usually empty so I always get a little ring of 6 rocks(the firat one respawns just after I mine the last) and whenever somebody comes along and interrupts my nice little chain, I ask them to move on to the dozens of other rocks. Then, when they say "stfu noob" I just follow them around and get all their coal until they leave  . Usually people with higher levels have more manners.

An idea I use is if your mining or woodcutting or something, go to the dutch world. Its never as crowded in those spots. \' Only thing is you have to remember what to click without reading it. And randoms are hard...because its in dutch. :-k

1)is there any generally accepted etiquette?

In most places, it is a free for all. However, in the mining guild there are normally enough rocks that people don't compete.

2)what do you do in these situations?

I just pwn the other miners.

3)Are the P2P worlds any better?

Normally there is little competition, so yes.

That's exactly my way of seeing it. If I see a rock ready to be mined next to me, busy or not, I'll still mine it. Though most people still have the "my rock, don't mine it" mentality and really gets mad at you. I simply ignore them and/or friendly remind them that no rocks have labels of anyone's name.

I also expect people to do the same towards me and mine the rocks I'm mining. The person who gets the rocks wins and moves on towards the next rock.. That's what competition is all about and that's one of the things I love with mining.

Besides, I haven't spent years on mining for nothing. ;)
