i am finishing this quest soon and i want to ask if i hav to wear the diving gears while fighting barrelchest

I believe you can change into armour at this point in the quest and don't have to wear the diving gear.

Dunno... He'll hit you too much with a low defense level (I tried to at a similar level and was utterly destroyed). If you have a decent magic level (enough to cast fire bolts will do), teleport out as soon as you start fighting barrelchest, and wait for 20 minutes or so, so that isn't aggressive to you when you go back. Get magic equipment and runes and return, and wait (he should just randomly walk around if you don't attack it) until you can get him stuck behind benches, and mage him to death.

 

That worked well for me, hope this helps you.
