outthere65
Hey I have been training strength ffor a week now and went from 54 to 72, my att is 66 with def at around 55. My combat lvl is 80 with hp at 66. I know I am too far away with this acc to be a pure. I have been soley fighting fleshy crawlers and zombies. I am a free player, I guess i will just try and get skilled high before moving on to member status. should i back off the str training and get the other combat lvls up? Train elsewhere on other monsters? Like the fact that the SoS is not too crowded like mossies and hills. Any help with the direction that you would take would be appreciated
Babyshambles
Ice giants are good, I went from 70 - 82 there before i came P2P again.
meol
If that account is not going to be a pure, it's better to have balanced stats, just IMO. SOS is a good place to train, too, so I'd keep training there. This signature is intentionally left blank.
outthere65
As for knowing if it was good or not to be a pure.....I am not sure really all there is to know about being a good pure or staker. I just didn't know if I should continue on with my str training or move into another skill. heard ice giants are food just didn't know if i would be able to stay down long and fight them. Thanks
Goobore
... I have been soley fighting fleshy crawlers... Good choice ... I guess i will just try and get skilled high before moving on to member status. Why wait? Things are only gonna get better/easier when you get members. should i back off the str training and get the other combat lvls up? That depends on what you goals are for your character. In melee F2P you can wear a Def ammy, Str ammy, or Power ammy. You can also get 4 dose Str potions for 5 gp in Varrock. So, Str is easy to raise. Def can be raised with 2 of the ammies but Atk with only 1. Hence, I suggest equalizing your stats. I tend to view a melee combat stat lower than the others as a weakness rather than the higher one as a strength. (You know, a glass half-empty or half-full) Train elsewhere on other monsters? The only real reason to train elsewhere is either Big Bones or better loot. Stay where you are if you just want exp. Hope this helps

You don't need to wear a certain amulet to train that stat; all a defence amulet does is boost defence by +10. You can train any combat style with any amulet. I'd suggest hill/moss giants (when they're not too crowded), ice warriors/giants, or anything in the level 2 or 3 Security Stronghold. Spiders, catablepons, flesh crawlers... minotaurs aren't too bad, even if they're really low leveled. Personally, I'd suggest that you raise all of your combat stats equally. If you're quite desperate about PKing (you don't seem to be...) then you could keep defence at 70, and raise attack and strength very high. If not, then, well, I believe that attack and defence are superior to strength - I'd rather hit multiple good hits than one or two great ones. Sig credit goes to ThruItAll. :D
outthere65
Thanks again goobore you always give some sound advice. The lvls naturally are harder to get (takes longer) now that I am 72 in str. I guess I should get att and def. up to the str lvl of 72. That is when I thought i would hit the member world. are the fleshies less crowded on member sites? They aren't terribly crowded on the f2p sites really, but somtimes 3-4 join in and slows things down? Looks like this acc. will just be a all around rs type of character. Will need to build a good staker in the future. Thanks for all the good advice
alcoolj
Fleshies are popular in members also, because they drop high level herbs often and a truckload of iron ore not to mention the fast training there. Fleshies in F2P are the best training spot all the way from 70ish to 99 imo! With your stats, you would be mincemeat in either F2P, or P2P pking at present. You really will need 80+ strength to become an effective pker in either (unless you get 85+ magic and range)
outthere65
Thanks for the post guys....and yes I wouldn't last long in the wildy right now. So my plan I guess is to continue on to get att, str, up to like 80 (whew lot of hours there...lol) and def. up to like 70 at least I guess as mentioned this could be the all around runescape character...lvling all stats as they go. Then make a staker account later. Thanks, So continue on in the fleshy crawler pit.....is what I am hearing mostly.. would I last long on the ice giants with 66,70,54 combat stats? Hate to go down there just to eat fish.
Mat
Stay at flesh crawlers, they are very good exp. Get 70 in all three, then do whatever you want afterwards, if you don't want to become a pure.
alcoolj
Ice giants are ok at higher levels, but with your stats you wont last longer than an hour there before needing to restock on food. Because its quite a distance from a F2P tele and bank, I would stay away from them til 80+ in att, str and def - then head on up to the ice giants in wildy F2P and camp out for days! hephaestos8
you could still be a staker with 70 atk, 70 def, 99 str
outthere65
I guess I will hang on to the fleshy thing and balance out my stats a little. Get str up to 80 then att then def up to at least 60. Would knows if I get 99 in everything maybe I can still pk a little...lol Thanks

You don't need to wear a certain amulet to train that stat; I never claimed that you had to wear an amulet to train that stat. ...all a defence amulet does is boost defence by +10. You can train any combat style with any amulet. Yes, obviously... The typical thought process behind not training melee combat stats equally is something like "Train Strength +10 more than DEf and ATK so that you will hit harder" So ATK, DEF, and STR stats of 30,30,40 would be viewed as better than 34.5, 34.5, 34.5 (That's the same overall exp) My comment was directed as those who want, for example, the higher STR stat. Namely, you can get higher STR in F2P by wearing a Power ammy, or Ruby ammy, and using a STR potion. So, you have more than 1 way to raise STR. (3 actually) Likewise, you can raise DEF 2 ways (power ammy and DEF ammy) But F2P ATK only has a power ammy to raise it. So, for those players that are wondering how to level, there are ways to raise STR, or ATK, or DEF without having to raise that skill. So they could hit harder (Ruby ammy with STR potion) yet still train in a controlled style. Hope this helps
