Search option

Recommended Posts

I've almost had enough with this search button here.

It's ridiculous; I'm trying to find a simple thread that has been lost in the general forums by searching parts of it's title and so far I have not had a single hit. My title goes something like "New slayer monster drops." I've tried "monster," "drops," "monster drops," "bestiary," "slayer," "slayer monster," and none of them have come up with the thread I was looking for.

This has also happened several times to me in the past, so what I explained above might not be just a coinsidence(i.e. it was deleted for some odd, unknown reason).

Does anyone know if phpBB3 is going to have a better search option? If so it will be one of the main updates I will be looking foward to in the third installment of the phpBB forums.

By popular demand, this signature is back- however I currently do not have a blog up at the moment and if I did I wouldn't update it. Sorry, the sig links to nowhere :( .

I agree.

And I've been campaigning for search to become better through the implementation of a new search feature, which allows users to search for all the threads created by a specific author. If you know who the author was of the topic you are trying to search for it would make search a "walk in the park."

Here's the Link for my Thread. I've gotten backing by mods and admins, yet I haven't gotten the "go ahead" or a reply from the person who counts - Albosky.

So before bumping my thread to hopefully get Albosky to look at it and reply to it, I'll see if linking it to this topic from another person asking if Search can be improved will help in my new search feature getting implemented. :)

Getting a new better search feature has been exhausted in so many times explaining we all need a new one. But as tallest said:

We're going to be switching to phpbb3 as soon as it goes gold. Release Candidate 4 was just released and if all goes well the gold version should be out within a month or two, according to the information I've read. Without putting words in Albosky's mouth, I seriously doubt he is going to be making any additions or modifications that aren't absolutely required until we're set up with the new software. Making any additional modifications beyond what we already have will only mean more time for him to convert the modifications later on when we move.

So basically we're gonna be made to wait. I don't even know if phpbb has a better search feature. :-#

Search buttons aren't perfect and can be improved. I don't know how to, however, because sometimes it just doesn't find topics even with simple words which are all included in the topic title.

IMO, it would be much more useful it was simpler. Seeing examples of other forums, where the search function are much more functional, there is only a "subject" and an "author" entry, and it only searches for topic titles and topic authors. Unless you are searching for an specific post in a huge thread, it's better that way. Wouldn't it also be easier to code?

This signature is intentionally left blank.

What you could do is go to the memberlist and search for that user then go through all their posts until you find the topic.

Just got to hope they're not the type of person that spams a bunch of crap on the general forums, but those people generally don't have topics worth reading anyway!
