September 16, 200718 yr legend. after watching his tribute video, it's bemusing to see how he died from a helicopter crash, and not his rally driving, another man marked down in history. My dA account..retired, as of the 1st January 2008.
September 16, 200718 yr I'm just curious, but did anybody make a thread when Boris Yeltsen died in, I believe, April? Somewhere around that time anyways. It was a Monday. If not, Yeltsin was more important than this guy, why doe she deserve a thread? especially if it hasn;t been confirmed? What the hell? Stop trying to act up to a stereotype.
September 16, 200718 yr I only just heard this tonight and can say I am absolutely gutted about it. He was something of a personal idol to me, why is beyond me because i've never drove a car, but something about his driving always had me in awe. I keep getting cold shivers thinking about it. Absolutely gutted, i've got loads of respect for Colin McRae :(
September 16, 200718 yr His style can probably be summed up after finishing runner up to Richard Burns in the RWC one year. McRae was leading going into the final stage, the UK rally - which he won to pip Carlos Sainz to the title to pick up his solitary RWC triumph. Most drivers in McRae's decision could have easily gone conservative to try and secure the win - but McRae stuck to the only driving style he knew, showing his respect to Burns' talents and the legions of fans he had. Pushing as hard as he could, McRae retired and finished 2nd in the championship. His cavalier style endeared him to so many racing fans of all varieties. This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.
September 17, 200718 yr on his website it's confirmed that both him and his son died in the helicopter crash. sad, i always enjoyed what little of the rally racing i got to see since speed stopped showing it. RIP :(
