I'm downloading untubu atm, but had a question about windows software, I looked at a program called WINE, which can run windows programs on it, would this be a good way to use iTunes or AIM for it, or is there something better?

New Question- I downloaded it, and when I clicked to open it, windows said that it had to search for a program to install it, and couldnt find one. How do I fix this?

Well Wine is the best Windows emulator on Linux. Make sure those programs work under Wine by checking on the website here.

 

 

 

Although there are numerous alternative programs to do what those programs do.

Ubuntu comes with a media player and instant messenger (if not, Pidgin works wonders). WINE is also incomplete and still has problems running certain software. You could try it but there's no guarantee they'll work.

The only problem is that I have an iPod, and don't know of another program that will run with the ipod and update it.

Well it was easier calling it an emulator than explaining what it really is. I didn't want to go into technical jargon and then have somebody argue that it technically would be and all of that.

Amarok has iPod support. How recent I don't know, but it's listed in the supported devices. I've never used it before but it should do what you're looking for according to the website. Being KDE based I also don't know how well it works with the default Gnome desktop Ubuntu ships with either.

I'll probably end up with trying WINE, because I need both itunes and quicktime support.

WINE is one of the most well-known emulators for Linux and Mac (I think Mac). I'd say go for it.

 

 

 

Although there IS one thing..I heard that microsoft did something with WINE or whatever. Might wanna read up on that too.

You need to burn it to a CD, put it in your computer, then computer restart your computer.

Would a flash drive work?

Yea it will. Just do a Google search for "Install Ubuntu from flash drive".

Edit: Y'know what? I've never installed..so who am I to give instructions. Just go to Ubuntu's website and see if you can find documentation for it.

As Linux is a little harder to learn for most then windows is.

 

Moving from Windows to Linux will take a fair bit of research, knowledge and trail and errors.

 

I recommend trying the Live CD, if you like it install in on a partition and dual boot (this way you can always go to windows to look up answers/guides).

 

 

 

In regards to the question download CDBurnerXP and burn the ISO file to a CD. Leave the CD in the drive and restart your pc, when it asks you to hit a key to boot from the CD hit a key.

In response to your question, I am going to try it, and have the backup Vista disk if I want it, and then I have all my music on my iPod, so I have nothing to lose trying.

Ubuntu is a relatively simple distribution of linux to learn. No harm in trying it! ;)

Yea it will. Just do a Google search for "Install Ubuntu from flash drive".

 

 

 

Use a disc instead... that way you'll have a "system recovery" disk if you ever need it... not that Linux will crash of course... but maybe there'll be a mob fight and your computer will get shot.
