MG Rover In Crisis

Featured Replies

MG Rover, one of the world's biggest car manufacturers, is in crisis. 60,000 jobs might be going...

Just wondering about people's views on weather the government should fork out. Rover's been around for over 100 years and is a major part in both the economy around england and the british people's heritage. This affects basically everyone who lives within miles of it, especially me since my dad works there...

Its the natural way of a country with a strong economy to change from secondary to tertiary sector businesses :(

My friend's dad lost his job this morning, so there's a chance that my dad will have lost his too...apparently my friend went down to the factory in the early hours last night and people were going in with lorries and taking stuff. Not nicking, but taking a hell of a lot of components from the factory.

I really hope you're dad and everyone involved are able to bounce back. The harsh reality is though, despite it's illustrious past and obvious beneficiaries to the economy, MG Rover now is a business deadweight. I really wouldn't want anyone to come in and bail them out because they risk losing their own jobs as well.

Still doesn't compensate with those already working with them, I know, but I think it's the long anticipated end for it.

Apparently the chinese are thinking of building factories in Shanghai. Wow, that'll help us out lots!

It's sad but unfortunately large sections of manufacturing in Britain are really feeling the strain of excessive regulation and very poor economic conditions. One of the biggest blows to the older industries was the treatment of pension funds. These have now put a huge strain on the more mature businesses in Britain.

It would be really good if some sort of deal could be worked out such that MG Rover could continue operating in some form or another. Unfortunately the politicians are involved for their own benefits not those of the MG Rover workforce. Still I hope something is salvaged.
