  2. Underpowering passive speakers will not damage them. Running a power amp of the socket int the back of a PC is not a good idea. That socket should be marked low power items only. Cross linking 2 sets of separately powered speakers without an active crossover is a very bad idea. (the more powerful amplifier is very likely to back feed into and burnout the weaker one). It overpowering speakers damages them, symptoms can be variable volume output.
  3. I'd favour a 10 year minimum ban for DUI before we start picking on sectors of society.
  4. The only way I can think of just now to extract your pictures is to use a Hex Editor, and some understanding for how DOS files are stored. Essentially the first 100 bytes of the files is the header. Depending on how the operation you did on the files the headers may or may not still be there. what you would need to do is to separate off the file but saving that separately, and then either recreate the heeader, if not there, then move along from the beginnig of the big file splitting it up manually. This is a very difficult task, and will take a long time. Probably better to recreate/ find anothe copy of your pictures.
  5. Seems like the files have been concatenated. Going to be difficult to sort that one out.
  6. I use a 3com Officeconnect ADSL firewall modem router, real easy to set up and get working. This is where I got it from http://uk.insight.com/apps/nbs/index.php?C=109&S=1057
  7. Yupthat's the first we had. I bought that one in WH Smiths Brighton for ÃÆââ¬Å¡Ãâã80 in 1981, and spent 2hrs soldering the thing together using a 1/64th inch soldering iron. Kit form was cheaper even in those days and everyone was a "Hale and Hearty 'Jolly Fellow Player".
  8. Ah well I think the processor has finally died. I'm managing to scrounge an old pc from somewhere tho :) TY for your suggestions.
  9. Well I tried all the suggested sites in the sticky. They all seem a little bit too sophisticated for my needs, and are all for socket processors, not slot 1. The processor I need it for is a PentiumII 266 the old one got a bit melted by the processor when the fan seized up. Any slot 1 heatsink will do as they will all support processors of 266 and above. I don't want a secondhand item, that's why Ebay isn't tried. I looked they all appear to be secondhand on there.
  10. It's sad but unfortunately large sections of manufacturing in Britain are really feeling the strain of excessive regulation and very poor economic conditions. One of the biggest blows to the older industries was the treatment of pension funds. These have now put a huge strain on the more mature businesses in Britain. It would be really good if some sort of deal could be worked out such that MG Rover could continue operating in some form or another. Unfortunately the politicians are involved for their own benefits not those of the MG Rover workforce. Still I hope something is salvaged.
  11. Hi, I need a new heatsink for a slot 1 processor, does anyone know where I can get hold of one on England or Edinburgh?
