xlippsx
My parents recently downloaded a program called cyberpatrol on my computer, that has completely blocked me from playing runescape. Whenever I type the words Runescape, rune, or tipit (lol), I get blocked (i don't know why tif doesn't get blocked). If anyone can help me get around this, i would really appreciate it. adam_ross0
Ask them to unblock RS and it's Fansites. If it's because of the game itself that they downloaded it, good luck convincing them. Or...you could use the stupid trick of Uninstalling it...but they'd notice >.<
xlippsx
no chance of them unblocking it...they are teh 3vil and no, i can't uninstall it cause it's hightech and you need a pass to uninstall lol/if you forget ur pass you gotta like call the company and schmidt so i mean yeah... adam_ross0
...Buy a new computer? I dunno...play over at a friends house? ..........or you could take the ultimate risk and make your firewall block all activity from that..if it can do that. I say just quit RS. Obviously they don't want you playing it....

Errdoth
Being (almost) 17 sucks...can't wait for college when i don't have to deal with this... Whoa whoa whoa there! You're SEVENTEEN and your parents are putting web filters on your pc!? Dude, that seriously sucks! If you really wanna play, there's always the chance of running Puppy Linux [1] off of a flash drive...but other than that, can't think of anything less drastic... Rcty
You would almost think that a 16 year old would have learned to respect their parents by now. Also, have you actually tried talking to them about unblocking it? Between the main post and your post claiming that your parents are evil (which is very disrespectful, I might add), there was an elapsed time of eight minutes. And between the suggestion of talking to your parents and the post stating that your parents are evil, there was an elapsed time of three minutes - Hardly enough time to have an actual productive conversation. Try talking to them about it. (Say more that "Will you unblock RuneScape?" Give details of why they should.) ~Rcty Rcty

They hate the idea of me playing an mmorpg, and i have had to play behind their backs the entire 3 years that i played (and no i wasn't happy about this). I don't actually hate my parents, it just frustrates me how they have completed taken the game from me, and i feel at my age i should be able to make these decisions... edit- And trust me, i have spoken to them about this many, many times and they are in no way willing to allow me to play the game

Then (as I stated originally) talk to them about it. If you're sixteen you probably know how to stay out of trouble on games like RuneScape. Say that you think you've deserved the right to be able to make the decision on whether to play or not. But don't be forceful and start accusing them of being mean or anything - they probably just want to protect you. ~Rcty Rcty
xlippsx
I just realized i'm not being as clear as i should, my parents view is that i should have an hour of tv/video games/computer time perday, and the rest should be spent doing school work, at a job, or volunteering somewhere. Yes their intentions are good, but they are a little extreme. There is no way i will be able to regain the ability to play by reasoning with them, i'm 100% certain of this. xlippsx
i just thought of something, i could keylog my own comp, have my parents activate cyberpatrol, and then get the pass that way (tell them somethings messed up with it and it's blocking normal sites). Any one know if that could work?

Any one know if that could work? Sounds like it would. Unless Cyberpatrol has some sort of anti-keylogging thing (which I'm not sure exists). Any one know if that could work? Probably not and it's unlikely that you can find a working keylogger that would do this for you without you keylogging yourself. Not to mention it's illegal. happyyoshis
that might but i found this somewhere these instructions replaces the list of blocked websites with an empty list Back up the files c:\patrol\cyber.bin and c:\patrol\cyber.not to some other location on the computer (or just rename them with ".bak" on the end of their names -- although this will of course make it easy for other people to find them). Create a zero-byte file called cyber.not in the c:\patrol\ directory. You can do this by running Notepad, picking "Save", and saving the blank file as an empty file at c:\patrol\cyber.not. Notepad usually adds ".txt" to the end of a file first though, so if this happens, be sure to rename the file from cyber.not.txt to cyber.not. restart your computer. Windows will re-start. When you get back into Windows, you will still not be able to access the Internet though; Cyber Patrol will think that "tampering" has occurred. A new cyber.bin file will have been created automatically in c:\patrol, slightly smaller than the old one. Do nothing, just continue. Re-start Windows again, as in the previous step. This time, you will be able to access the entire Internet. member home= world 59nonmember home=world

Restart Windows, without necessarily restarting your computer. You can do this by picking "Shut Down" from the Start Menu, selecting "Restart the computer", and holding down the Shift key when you click "OK". You can also restart your computer the usual way, but this is faster. Windows will re-start. Thanks for the info, but i'm not tech. savy at all, and have no idea what you're talking about =P~ Probably not and it's unlikely that you can find a working keylogger that would do this for you without you keylogging yourself. Not to mention it's illegal. Didn't know it was illegal, def. won't be doing that.
