My analysis of the new updates.

Featured Replies

As many of you, when this update first come out, my opinion was strongly negative. This did come as a shock to many, so you can't really blame people for reacting in this way. But there are so many positive things about this update that I feel many of you may not have even considered.

Pros:

-Scamming in general has pretty much been eliminated, or it will be in January when they restrict unbalanced trades. "Armor trimming", "Dupe ur items by dropping them and pressing alt + f4", any kind of luring- wildy or non, item switching... anything to do with trade or dropping, since you can't make trades if they are imbalanced, and can't see items people drop or die with...have been pretty much done away with.

-"Hacking" (keylogging) and password scamming is now pretty much pointless (or will be in January), since it is all but impossible to transfer items to another player without giving an equal amount of cash for it. They can still drop your items and make you loose it all, but again, that would be absolutely pointless.

-Along with the above, I doubt many people will have reason to impersonate Jagex staff anymore.

-Real world item trading is now all but impossible. They can still buy/sell accounts. However, from what I understand, account trading is much easier to detect. It's to the point where it is pretty much pinned down. Along with this, there go most of those pesky bots we all hate so much.

-No more drop trading.

Cons: There are a lot. But most of them can be solved, and without undermining Jagex's efforts to stop RWT.

No more merchanting:

While this is mostly true, it is still possible to make money buying and reselling items to the Grand Exchange. Do you think an item will go up in value in the near future? Buy some of that item. If and when it does, you can reap the profits from it.

No more PKing:

I'll admit, this does look bad. The wilderness is barren, and the BH minigame is no substitute in its current state. I don't see the old wilderness being returned, either. There are ways to rectify the current situation, though.

1. Add three more doors to the BH minigame: Single combat areas for low, medium, and high levels. Also make it to where bounty hunters have priority on their prey; so if a RWTer is transferring items to a customer in a 1v1 battle, a hunter can come and PJ them.

2. Expand the clan chat so that it can hold more than 100 players, or make it possible to link clan chats in "alliances" so that Clan War games can have more than 100 on either side.

3. The wilderness is currently an almost useless area. There is some content, like the agility course, rune rocks and the like, but for its size there simply isn't enough. Previously this was perfectly fine, since the whole of the wilderness was a free-for-all PvP zone, but since it's pretty much a normal area now with the exception of the moderate danger from the revenant creatures, it needs more content. Quests, dungeons; things like that.

4. The ditch was a measure against luring. It's an eyesore, but it was necessary. Not anymore, it would probably be best if it were removed.

5. There needs to be more revenant creatures in the vicinity of the Zamorak Mage. Currently abyssal RuneCrafting is way too easy.

No more Dueling:

This wasn't a result of yesterday's update, but it isn't unlike those. I have to admit, I wasn't all too disappointed to see it go. Its moenymaking potential was near infinite; that needed to change.

However, I agree that the 3k cap is ridiculous. It could be raised to a figure in the 100k's without undermining Jagex's efforts against RWT, and it would revive this aspect of the game somewhat.

Either way, there still are Duel Tournaments for high stakes wins. If you win one of these, you actually earn the huge sum of cash for being the best, not simply by getting lucky.

No more fair Monster Hunting:

With the inability to fairly share loot, and the inadequacy of Lootshare to remedy this, come January this aspect of the game could ultimately die. But again, there are ways that loot could fairy be shared.

My idea: When you get an item worth over a certain amount as a drop, it would log who was within 16 squares in your Clan Chat Lootshare system when the item was dropped. When you go to sell the item in the GE, you have the option to put it up in a special lot. When that lot sells, it will split the cash evenly and send it to each player's respective collection boxes. RWTers couldn't use this because they would have to actually get the item as a drop in a Lootshare group to put it up in this special lot.

No more FFL, FFA or Double Nats services:

There's a simple way to fix this. Remove the time restriction, but keep it at 3k above/below market value per trade. Since RWTers usually are transferring LARGE volumes of cash from their bots to them, and from them to their customers, this restriction would make things very impractical for them. If they wanted to transfer say, 30m to a customer it would take 10,000 trades.

No more (private) drop parties and gifts:

This is a negative I can't see a way around. No matter how you look at it, there would probably be a way for RWTers to exploit a feature that allowed for private drop parties and gift giving. No amount of restrictions on WHO can use it would stop RWTers from using it, since they can just buy accounts.

But really, if ultimately this is the only complete casualty of the war on RWT I'll accept it. Gift-giving was nice, but it isn't necessary. Why should you have to profit from having a nice friend? It should be the friendship that counts, not the items they could possibly give you. Doesn't if feel better if you earn your items, anyway?

I'll admit, in the current state of things, the game is pretty dead. But Jagex has already said that they're not going to leave it like this. These are desperate measures to stop RWTing and all related rule breaking in its tracks. I promise you though, if Jagex were to implement features similar to the ones I listed above, RuneScape will indeed be better than when they started this whole crusade. It won't be the same, but it will be a game almost free of scamming, RWTing, macroing, and "hackings". Doesn't that sound appealing?

A final thought: In case you haven't noticed, Jagex just released all the updates they mentioned in BTS in one week (besides the Xmas update). That could very well mean in the following weeks Jagex will indeed be implementing measures to solve some of the above problems.

Maybe they will. But is it just me, or does it seem like they put it up in a bit of a hurry? Maybe they wanted to get it all over with at once...

This update is to us what the meteor was to the dinosaurs.

If the CORPORAL beast is this hard, imagine how hard a GENERAL or COLONEL beast would be. a corporal is not even an admirable rank in armies that use that ranking system.

Yeah, it is a pking minigame, so any arguments anybody makes will probably be biased.

The best way this will end :Everybody just says,"I'm not arguing with you anymore, goodbye."

The worst way this will end: I don't really know, psychological warfare? Worldwide thermonuclear war? Pie eating contest?

It's sad how much they are killing that game just so RWT can stop.

In the diary it says it RuneScape got bored because of the bots? Well maybe for F2Pers but certainly not for P2Pers...should have done more research.

Blizzard can handle RWT yet Jagex can't? Lame.....

Someone on this forum posted that Jagex strolled into the Blizzard company and started asking how they (RuneScape) should get rid of bots anD RWITs... If it's indeed true, then I'd say with a hearty pat on the back: Kudos to you Jagex =D>
