no you can't do it, you need to hit with every elemental blast to make him drop it

Yeah, I tried it without the blasts once... didn't work. However, you can do it with 55 magic, a magic potion, and a bit of good timing/luck.

I did it with a Mind Bomb but it was very annoying (took three goes but I can't remember why....)
