A quick magic clarification

Hey there, quick question about magic.

 

 

 

I have heard that magic helps you in your defense against entangle and teleblock and other things like that (when they used to be in effect for PvP)... but I remember hearing it didn't help reduce actual magic attacks.

 

 

 

I'm curious for some actual confirmation either way if raising magic level actual protects against offensive (damaging) magical attacks or not. (For instance, my current magic level is 87 - would 88-99 technically give me a defensive advantage?)

 

 

 

Either way, can you please post a link or copy and paste some info?

What affects my Magic Defence?

 

 

 

Magic Defence depends on your Magic skill level, Defence level and equipment you are wearing.

 

 

 

The higher your skill levels and Magic bonus, the less likely you are to get hit. You will also receive less damage from a spell.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

From ym experience, defence level has a much bigger effect than magic level, and armour has the most effect. Magic level just helps a little bit - especially against the higher level spells in pvp.

Yeah I've seen that, but it's not specific if it's for entangle/teleblock type of "fail or suceed" type of spells, or if it can redcude offensive damaging spells..

Higher mage level the less often you get hit, and the less numbers you get hit o.O

 

 

 

so that means less hits by tb, more splashes by barrages, and less likely to be a 30 with barrage.

Is there a difference between monster attack and player attack? You're talking mostly barrage and stuff, which is players, which I dont really care at all about.

 

 

 

You know if it's the exact same for monsters? I assume so.

The only difference is when you're praying, I think.

I'm 99% sure it is the same, as for say jellies and stuff? the magical melee attacks i'm not so sure. I assume it's the same, but i'm not sure.

70% of the mage defense is from Magic lvl, and 30% from defense.

It is 100% sure, as Jagex has confirmed, that magic level works as defense versus magic.

 

 

 

The higher your magic level, the more magic attacks versus you will splash.

Just for the record, when i said i think defence has more of an affect that magic level, that was speaking only from what i feel i experienced in training them - may or may not be true. I've never heard the 70/30 figure, but i might be wrong about what i said. I can't find anything that says which has more effect.

I do not think Jagex has released the exact figures as to how much defense and magic levels contribute to your magic defense. All that is known is that they do.

 

 

 

However, if you read the link I posted about 3 posts above, while the guide is pretty bland, repetitive, and obvious, there is an experimentation part which interestingly talks about casting/being casted on with armour and its intriguing behavior in terms of splashes, etc...
