ranged method to kill black dragons?

I want to grow ranged, plus get a visage. Would iron knives work for 84 ranged? If not, what then? Once I can mine and smith addy bolts, 4 smith lvls 4 mining lvls, I will probably use those on metals instead of blacks. Thanks

 

 

 

EDIT: It seems that bolts would be the best ranged weapon, which I pretty much figured. Which bolts though?

Im sure you could do it. But i think it would be a lot faster if you used Rune C'bow and Zammy Book with some sort of bolts.

Agreed. Maybe iron or steel bolts would suffice? Anyone agree disagree? SUggestions?

I've been told Diamond Bolts (e) are great for training but they cost alot.

 

 

 

I've also been told Bone Bolts are good and they only cost between 2gp - 6gp in the exchange.

I would say don't waste your diamond (e) on black dragons. I used Mith (e) and it only took 2-3 mins per kill at 81 range.

 

 

 

You can either use mith (e) or addy (not enchanted) and kill them pretty efficiently.

I'd use nothing lower than mith, addy if you can scrape it. Don't worry about enchantment - might be worth having a few hundred for drags though, use them until the drag is poisoned then switch to the cheaper tipless ones.

i use mith bolts, un enchanted since they are like 70-80 ea now, you make 3x

 

profit even if you just sell the hides

I range blacks somewhat frequently and have found the following to be true:

 

 

 

Knives will often pull you into melee range so dont use knives

 

 

 

Cheaper bolts hit less often than more expensive ones

 

 

 

Emerald bolts (e) poison them within a few shots

 

 

 

Addy bolts hit better, and enchanted Addy even better (diamond or ruby tips)

 

 

 

You will lose money on them, and I have killed over 1k black dragons for the visage, which still eludes me. The only thing I have made any money on is the javelins which I immediately sell to the merchants. Sometimes they are handy for pulling a dragon to your area.

 

 

 

Also, the longer you take to kill the dragon, the more of your bolts on the ground will despawn. It works the same as if you dropped them, so you have to kill faster. That's why poisoning first is best. You don't get xp for the damage done by poisoning, but you do get a faster kill.

 

 

 

I have a good inventory of mithril & addy bolts and mithril & addy darts. The darts are pure dust devil killing tools, and the bolts are mostly for black dragons / metal dragons.
