January 7, 200818 yr My favorite historical event is a whole bunch, easy to write an essay in other words, rolled together. It is called the Seven Years War between Korea and Japan in the late 1500's. You not only cover Korea's political revolution and when it became the most technologically advanced ship builders in the world (Still are today) but also a war hero named Admiral Yi Sun-sin who is considered the greatest admiral in history and built the world's first iron clad. I wrote a 23 page essay over this and added a brief historical overview of the Japanese politics of the time where Hideyoshi had just unified Japan under one ruler and had decided to keep the dayamio in line with a war in China but, Korea wouldn't allow them to pass through Korea into China so they launched what would become the Seven Years War. It is sadly little known outside of Korea as Admiral Yi Sun-sin was an amazing tactician who laid the ground rules for sea battles and didn't lose a single ship the whole war including one battle of 13 ships against 330 Japanese vessels and won. He was the Sun Tzu of water based combat! :D So yeah, my favorite event in history. If you want something more European, try El Cid around the 1300's, amazing tale of a man who was a king's Champion but his king was assasinated by his brother who wanted the power of Castile for himself. He served his new king faithfully but, was much more popular among the people for his ways than the king so he was made an outcast until he gathered a band of supporters over a period of time and they made their own town. They were later found by a Muslim king who brought them in and he had a new king once again to serve through war and peace. It eventually came to the point though where he had to go against his former king but went back to his "True king", the one who outcasted him just before and helped his army fight them off. Afterwards he was outcasted by both kings and he wandered again with his band of followers and saved Vallencia from invasion and became its king. Another idea for you.
