King_Royale
Take the general board for example. Couldn't we just make a small subforum to put certain new updates on? Or maybe just a sticky? It's so hard going in there and clicking one thing, going out, and cant find it again. :|
The_Sith
I'm not a fan of consolidating topics to one thread; it vastly limits the possibilities for discussion. I support having an official, Tip.it staff-posted thread for each new update - but that's it. I do NOT support locking all other threads that try to start a discussion about said update. Most of the time, the discussion does centralize around one thread but often times, other interesting discussions can "spawn" on what would appear to be extremely similar threads. I understand with summoning and everything else that there are a lot of topics that pretty much cover the same things. But it's easy enough to wade through that and find what you are looking for; compounding all threads of the same topic into a single thread or subforum spells disaster for forum activity. It's been done before many times and the results are always the same: forum-goers have a better time, have more opportunities for communicating with other users, and participate in higher quality discussions when there is less "structure" and merging of similar topics. Ginger_Warrior
There are several similar threads that appear on the General, but each does have its own purpose. There is typically one general thread for the update, quoting the main article, with lots of others which go into more detailed discussion about a certain aspect of that skill. All those topics which are, in effect, either pure speculation or ditto topics of a topic that already exists are locked. I see no reason for that policy to change. | Favourite Game Music | Last.fm | HYT Friend Chat Rules |
Captainkidd
Well, theres only this many threads because summoning was suppose to be one of jagex biggest updates...well thats a bust. How ever, a subforum isn't a bad idea in my book, just probley not nessary as in a month of two when this all dies down, so will the threads and so too will the sub forum. Maybe creating one when a big update that has people talking and deleting it when it's not used much anymore would be an idea...
tripsis
As the others have said, there are similar threads, but not identical threads. If there are actual duplicates you can report them and they will be locked. People are really excited/frustrated because of the new updates. This hype will not last forever, but this update was very anticipated so it's only natural that there are a lot of threads about it. - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
