No, tanking is not advised with under 70 defence, and even then you'd have to use things like excalibur/bunyip to be really effective.

 

80+ is recommended.

 

Good setup for ~80 def:

Swap Arma helm/Fury for Arma pendant/Torag's helm if you can't afford that, and swap ranger boots for snakeskin boots if you want. Ring slot can be archer/wealth/life.

Ye get 70+ def to kill them without prayer, btw they are sad now, Jagex nerded them, bars are not so often like was in past =P~

You still make a decent profit (300k+ gp/hour). And the nerf was quite a while ago. They've been dropping 1bar/1kill for a while now. With prayer, you can make more actually.
