New Slipknot Album

Just because you don't like someone's music does not mean that they are not talented. I do not like country music whatsoever, but I know that it takes a lot of skill to play a Slide Guitar and I can definitely appreciate it.

Whether you want to admit it or not, Slipknot has a few of the most talented musicians in all of music right now. They're not the best, but they are very talented nonetheless. Last time I checked, they didn't make a custom line of snare drums or a custom signature Vic Firth drumstick after "average" drummers. Or the fact that Corey Taylor headlines 2 of the most popular rock bands in music business. Or that Mick Thompson owns his own guitar shop in Des Moines, IA and has been giving lessons there since before he was in Slipknot. Have you listened to his sweep-picking solos before? He is a very talented musician.

Get off your high horses for once and appreciate musicians that perform something that your oh-so-refined taste buds in music aren't used to listening to.

I will thoroughly enjoy this.

Slipknot is a disgrace to metal, and deserves no more than the shellacking I will impose upon them and their fans in this post. They helped pioneer the awful nu-metal sound of the late 90s that spawned more ripoffs like Mushroomhead and Mudvayne that still plague us to this day. To disect your last paragraph claiming I am not used to bands of this ilk: Will I lie and say I wasn't into similar bands growing up? Of course not, but I matured, grew out of it, and moved on to superior musical acts.

Metal is a genre that hangs its hat on being extreme and oftentimes ridiculous, but Slipknot embodies all of whats wrong in the scene. Its no coincidence that the vast majority of the band's fanbase is 14 and under. Now I have to point out that Slipknot is often used as a "gateway" of sorts into metal; It is to metal what Blink-182 is to punk: Everyone listened to it, but not all will admit it  I want to respect this, but then hypocrits like you come along trying to warrant a band like Slipknot with erroneous claims of the band's great talent. Joey Jordison is perhaps the most skilled member of the band, but is little more than your average metal drummer; yet he receives wide praise and ultimately got endorsed because he plays for a bunch of ignorant kids that quite simply don't know anything else, go figure. May I dare say, Slipknot has a few of the least talented musicians in all of metal right now, that is, if you take popularity into account. Now I know theres plenty of Slipknot fans on this forum, but there are also a ton of kids, so thats understandable. Most of you will grow out of it, just don't end up trying to justify it by falsely propping up the musicians with false claims. :ugeek:

I understand why you don't like them, and I know that a lot of people don't. I get it.

Being a drummer myself, I have to disagree with you on Joey being slightly more than average. When you listen to a metal band play (from my experiences at least, I don't listen to the sub-genres much) you will most likely hear 1 of the following: Straight 16th/Triplets on the bass drums throughout the entire song, A blast beat usually still 16th notes on the bass drums, or a very simple beat somewhat Metallica-esque. (By the way, I do not like Metallica at all) Now if you listen to most of Slipknot's songs, Joey puts a lot more creativity into his songs than most metal drummers. He can play fast when necessary (See People=[cabbage]) but he also plays with style. I grew up listening to the greatest drummers of the last century: Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, Neil Peart, Terry Bozzio, John Bonham, Ian Paice. All of these drummers were pioneers in their genre. If you look at pretty much any list of "Best drummers in Metal" today, I can assure you Joey is on that list. Of course he couldn't touch the likes of Danny Carey or Gene Hoglan, but he has a lot of talent.

Just to let you know, I'm not the card carrying 14 year old who listens to nothing but Slipknot. I don't even consider them to be one of the best bands out there, but if you can only tell me personal opinions on how they are all talentless hacks, I really challenge you to achieve 1/10th of their success.

If I have to commit musical death like they do to achieve what you call "Success" then I'm already defeated. I'm perfectly content in my own band of friends making what many would call underground metal. It may not be popular or draw much of a crowd, but those who can appreciate it for what it is understand. I agreed with your entire post up to that last sentence.

I completely disagree...

A lot of the members of the band are extremely talented yet they waste their talent on Slipknot.

Mick Thompson and Jim Root are pretty damn good guitarists but playing in Slipknot does not really call for a huge demand in their talent. There are some good videos on youtube of Mick actually playing other types of music and he really knows what he's doing. He even teaches guitar for all genres of music because he knows how to play them.

Corey Taylor is one of the greatest front-man's is the entire metal genre. He is an amazing singer but again in my opinion he chooses to waste his talent in Slipknot. Look at Stone Sour, look at any other songs Corey has done, songs with Apocalyptica, covers of Anthrax, Soulfly, even Alice in Chains and many more. Joey Jordinson is an incredibly good drummer and can play a double bass incredibly fast.

So this is my opinion. A lot of talented musicians in a band that really doesn't call for so much talent. So I can understand you don't like the band but you really can't say that none of the members have any talent.

You took that out of context; I said for bands that are popular and receive as much praise as Slipknot. Although now that I look at it, most popular bands sound like sheet....

Mainstream Rock FTL. I'm really starting to hate 93x (Twin Cities rock station). Every other song is Nickelback or some other crappy mainstream rock band.

Well I don't hate 93x so much anymore. They're airing the new Slipknot song "Psychosocial" at 8pm central standard time tonight.

The only person in this band who has an ounce of talent is their drummer, the rest are pretty horrible and write horrible songs that are beyond boring.

Not a huge slipknot fan at all, I prefer stone sour. Not going to argue about it though.

Wow. Why cant people who are anticipating the new album, post, and the Slipknot haters stay away?

Wow. Why cant people who are anticipating the new album, post, and the Slipknot haters stay away?

Because,

(1) No one is anticipating the new album

(2) This is the internet.

Next new song is up - Psychosocial.

Bad Quality but it's the best they had on youtube.

My thoughts on the new song.....

-Corey singing = Good

-An actual solo? = Good

Better than the first song I think but still just a decent song in my book.
