Bodys:

 

Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi -$879 (quite a bit over my prive range, concidering a still need a lens ;))

 

NikonD60 body - $450 (Probably the one i'm gunna get unless someone can chow me a better one, at about that price)

 

 

 

Lenses:

 

I'm so P'O'D because TAMERON only deals in the USofA :x the lens I want is the Tamron SP AF90mm F/2.8 Di Macro 1:1 Model 272E

 

 

 

another is the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM.. can`t find a price though :S

 

 

 

and if I can`t get that one thèn ì`l gô wïth thë AF micro NIKKOR 60mm f/2.8D

So I will probally go with the Nikin D60 with a AF micro 60mm lens, for just over $1000 (Gst)

 

 

 

For a birthday preasent my mummie and dadirlie are gunna pay half ;p which makes we wanna get the D6 for 5 grand lol

Both are superb photographers. You could also make a post in the questions sticky of The Gallery. The gallery is probably your better option here.

what do you plan on photographing?

 

Nature? landscape? Macro? Portrait.. ect ect...

It's a good thing that you decide to buy a body only with another lens instead of buying it with a kitlens.

 

I made that mistake and I bought the 350D with the kitlens, and I regret it.

 

 

 

It's ok for soccermoms and older people, but you start to get very annoyed by its cons, like pillow shaping and lack of sharpness.

 

 

 

First of all: Get a good all-round lens (that covers the standard focal lengths) like the Tamron 17-50mm f2.8. LP uses it too and I think I will buy one of those too once I have some money to spend, but I heard Sigma also has one at those focal lengths.

 

 

 

You cant simply just buy the body without a decent all-round lens like that, its a must. So please dont buy a body with a macro lens, you will need that all-round lens more than you think.

 

 

 

After you have got that, you can start expanding in specific lenses, like LP said.

 

 

 

I dont know about Nikon bodies but the 350D is just fine for beginners like you, it was the best entry level for beginners in photography for months after it had been released. It even has about the same image quality as the Canon 20D, a semi-pro camera. (But the 20D has much more other features that the 350D doesnt have, which are much more useful too)

 

 

 

 

 

I will give more advice once you have bought those 2 things first, because

 

1) I dont know if you will go with Canon or Nikon (Try both of them out in a store, you dont have to buy them)

 

2) We dont know what you will be using it for. ;)

Woopdi: I loved that lens, but tameron does not deal in canada

 

Also, I can't find the body your talking about :( do you mean the D2X or the D200? or a different body alltogeather (like canon)

 

 

 

LP, i'm getting into more macro photography ^^

I am a classic Canon 300D user (Gah so out of date ;)) and i also own a Nikon D70. I'd pick up the Canon before the Nikon anyday. Feels better in my hand, lighter, and it seems i can get better overall quality pictures with it. Both are good no doubt, i just personally prefer the canon. DEFIENTLY go to the store and hold them before you buy. You need to feel them in your hand to make a good decision.

Amazing lens btw! I got to play around with my friend's. Its next on my list of lenses to get. The Canon 60mm Macro is very nice as well, both on par with each other...just kinda depends on what you wanna shoot with it.

 

 

 

Another thing you're gonna eventually want to look at is a new flash/flash setup. The onboard just won't cut it when you are doing true macro photography IMO. Not needed right away, but down the road def something to consider getting.

How much are flashes? the one for my old film nikon broke years ago. :S
