The Observer
Well, I'm not sure if you have to post on the sticky, but I'll tell you it here anyway.. Basically, when I finish loading the RuneScape HD world, the background (which is a preview of it) goes all funny. It's perfectly smooth and everything. OS: Windows 98SE (Should get XP for it soon) Processor: 2.2 GHZ (Amd Athlon 64 3500+) RAM: 512 MB Video Card: ATI Radeon 9600 series (256 MB) Java: Newest Java for Windows 98/ME I also noticed that when I clicked on the Direct3D test, it kicked out to the desktop. **New Picture** This is what it looks like when I log in RuneScape HD. (It's fine when I log into the normal detail version.) Probably a better picture. P.S. Yes, I did add in those red boxes in order for the text to show. :P

OldJoe
After a little searching, this is the latest Java i could find for Win98: http://www.java.com/en/download/windows98me_manual.jsp Version 6+, says it supports Win2000 - Vista. Try this and see if it helps. D. V. Devnull
It only works in full screen. It's perfectly smooth. This is the opposite of most people rofl. I have but one question... Have you filed a bug report to Jagex? If you haven't, make it very clear that you don't have ~$150 USD to pour into a New OS, and they'll listen and try to help fix it one way or another, even if they have to expand/bug-test their code again. :-s If they want the most business that they can get, they will fix the problem such that they can add Windows 98SE to their list of supported platforms. In turn, that will make a lot of people happy, causing more people to play, and therefore more potential money that Jagex can earn. And here is to the hope that my thoughts help. ~Mr. D. V. Devnull and normally with a cool mind.(Warning: This user can be VERY confusing to some people... And talks in 3rd person for the timebeing due to how insane they are... Sometimes even to themself.)

And the reason why they're not listening to my reports is the fact that I'm F2P.

V. Devnull This would not be Jagex's job to support the operating system. It is entirely up to Sun to have the newest Java support Windows 98. If they drop support for 98 (which the windows download says no 98 so they must have already) Jagex has no power over this. They certainly are not going to code for an old Java version that does support 98 just for a few more subscribers.

They certainly are not going to code for an old Java version that does support 98 just for a few more subscribers. Jagex says it still functions with Java 1.5. But they said it won't work as smooth as in the newest java. And yes, I can install the newest Java, but Sun warns me that it's only been tested on Windows XP and Vista and that it may not work properly on 98. As I have stated, it only works in fullscreen which wouldn't really mean the java version. It might have something to do with using an internet browser as when you click fullscreen, a separate java applet opens up.

The Observer
Has RuneScape ever worked right? The normal RuneScape works perfectly. Only when I use the non-fullscreen High Detail RuneScape, I have this problem. P.S. RuneScape HD works with OpenGL, maybe you can get something from that? Plus, I did a few OpenGL tests, and most of them are okay. However, some of the animations have the same problem I'm experiencing here. I'm worried the graphics card might be shot... :(

Latest I can get. Only thing I can suggest then is to try both a "JRE 5, latest update" Java runtime, and a version of your graphics driver that is NOT too recent. Some older things work better than other newer things. :? ... (Please don't get mad at me over security bugs... I already understand there is that risk. :( ...) Other than that, try sloter's advice, and rig a dual-boot with a Linux distro. That way, you have both Linux and Windows to use. : ~Mr. D. V. If you're suspecting your video card (i have the exact same one on one of my computers), you can download ATI Tool and press scan with 3d-view enabled to see if any artifacts appears. Catalyst 6.2 is the final supported driver for Windows 98/ME and 2000. I will need Windows XP for it. Hmm, the only problem is ithat it's for Windows 2000/XP/Vista. And I tried installing Ubuntu. However, it doesn't work properly. It freezes during the middle of the installation (first bootup after installing with Wubi).
