Sand_Hill
Quick question: about how many iron knives would it take to train ranged from 60-99? Also, are they picked up by Ava's Accumulator? Thanks in advance! Now known as Expl0de.My Defense Pure GuidePlease don't post on forums whilst inebriated.
Seraphyna
A ton...I really have no idea how many you'd need especially using an accumulator. Yes, ava's accumulator picks up any ranged projectiles you use provided there's a clear path from you to the monster. So if there's a large rock in the way, it won't pick them up. Iron knives will take you a very very long time to get to 99...I'd recommend using them to get 80 tops, more like 70 and then change methods. You'd be better off using a bone cbow and bone bolts than iron knives after 70.
Sand_Hill
I am planning on buying a dark bow soon, so I guess I'm covered. What method did you use to get to 92? Seraphyna
I basically used steel knives and arrows to 70, then crystal bow and steel stuff til about 80. From 80-92 it's been a mix of crystal bow, and rune c bow with either emerald (e), ruby (e), or diamond (e) bolts. It basically depends on what I'm killing. green9090
Lately I've been killing things with broad bolts, mainly my slayer tasks. Also, dragons (like blue and green, not the high level ones. Going for 80 prayer). I would NOT suggest training with a dark bow. It's too slow, you'd be better off with a rune crossbow and broad bolts. They're only 71gp each if you can't make them, and better than mithril bolts. Seraphyna
I've heard the hunter cbow with spine bolts is pretty good as well, and that the bone cbow and bone bolts is about the same as mith.
Sand_Hill
The dark bow is just for fun. I like crossbows a lot, so that sounds like my best bet. Thanks guys! green9090
Bone bolts can be pretty good, but only on monsters with low defense. The accuracy is horrid on anything tougher than a fire giant in my experience- in that case you'd be MUCH better off with mith. Seraphyna
Good luck! 99 from 60 is an awfully large undertaking. Hang in there. When in doubt train slayer, so you don't get too incredibly bored. Once you hit 90 you might want to consider red chinchompas for training too, but you have time before you have to make that decision.
Sand_Hill
I looked up broad bolts in the grand exchange, and all that came up were unfinished ones. What's wrong here? Also it says that they are "for use with turoth and kurasks." Are they ONLY for use with these? Now known as Expl0de.My Defense Pure GuidePlease don't post on forums whilst inebriated. green9090
You need to look up broad-tipped bolts I believe. Try with and without the hyphen. Yes the hunter bow is amazingly awesome in every way for training. Kebbit bolts cost about 25 or so coins each and are somewhere between mithril and steel bolts I believe(never having personally used steel bolts). They are also surpisingly accurate and the bow fires at a rate a bit quicker than whipping(I think). If I ever decide to train this horrid skill again it will be with kebbit bolts, I only use them for killing Ahrim now :( Barrows: 9~2 V Brass,V Flail,2 Dh Plate,V Helm,V Skirt,T Legs,Malevolent Shield + DKing: 48~6 W Ring,13 A Ring,8 M Staff,9 S Ring,7 B Ring,3 SeercullDragon Drops: 500+~50+ Med,26 Axe,3 Chain,10+ Legs,10+ Spear,2 D2h,10+ L Half,49 Boots,2 DDs,10+ Lump,9 Claws,50+ Dagger,14 Visage,50+ Mace,4 Scimitar,7 Hasta,Baxe,50+ Long,30+ Royal,2 Kite,4 Ward,2 Plate,Staff,Hammer,Limbs, Mattock,HalberdGWD: 156~4 S Staff,50+ Shard,9 B Tass,13 B Plate,5 B Boots,6 A Plate,11 S Sword,8 A Hilt,4 A Skirt,9 A Helm,S Hilt,3 B Hilt,B Glove,2 A Buckler,Z Ward,Z Garb,2 Z Boots,B Shield,B Helm Corp: 3~Elysian,2 Sp Sh + Nex: 6~Torva Legs,Cere,P cowl,Z bow,2 T boots + GWD2: 9~2 Glaive,Wand,2 Crest,Blade,2 Essence,Core + Araxyte: 5~Web,3 Pheromone,Fang + Raids: 4~3 Codex,P Boots + Trails: 2~Bob Shirt,Fortunate Etc: 64~3 Sceptre,B Mask,16 Whip,2 Focus Sight,5 D Bow,7 SOL,Ragefire,2 Steadfast,Arma Staff,6 Rider Armor,5 Vine,2 Razorback,2 A Wand,Abby Orb,3 Blood Shard,6 Hydrix,Gland,Asc Xbow [spoiler=Capes]Quest Cape Aquired 12-7-07 ~ Level 93 + + + Completionist Cape Aquired 5-22-15 ~ Level 138Hitpoints Cape Aquired 9-21-09 ~ Level 131 + Magic Cape Aquired 9-24-09 + Attack Cape Aquired 3-5-10 ~ Level 135 + Summoning Cape Aquired 3-12-10Strength Cape Aquired 6-1-11 ~ Level 137 + Fire Cape Aquired 6-23-11 + Defence Cape Aquired 7-5-11 + Ranged Cape Aquired 8-1-11 + Kiln Cape Aquired 2-26-12 ~ Level 138Dungeoneering Cape Aquired 4-22-12 + Slayer Cape Aquired 6-25-14 ~ Level 200 + Herblore Cape Acquired 12-9-14 ~ Level 138 + Prayer Cape Acquired 12-20-14Agility Cape Acquired 1-4-15 + Hunter Cape Acquired 1-30-15 + Construction Cape Acquired 1-31-15 + Crafting Cape Acquired 2-22-15 + Thieving Cape Acquired 3-18-15Runecrafting Cape Acquired 4-14-15 + Mining Cape Acquired 4-19-15 + Fishing Cape Acquired 4-25-15 + Firemaking Cape Acquired 4-26-15 + Woodcutting Cape Acquired 4-26-15Cooking Cape Acquired 4-26-15+ Smithing Cape Acquired 4-28-15 + Farming Cape Acquired 4-29-15 + Divination Cape Acquired 5-3-15 + Dungeoneering Mastery 5-4-15Fletching Cape Acquired 5-4-15 + Max Cape Acquired 5-4-15 + Invention Cape Acquired 11-9-16 + Invention Mastery 5-16-19 + Archaeology Cape Acquired 10-30-
craven_range
Bronze Knives are the way to go  You loose ~100 per 40k xp. So you will loose 32.5k, so buy 35k to be safe :P (i may be wrong)
Sand_Hill
You're the only person who didn't say to skip knives. Are they really as slow as they sound? green9090
Bronze knives are a way to get 99 ranged without spending very much at all, and without having to worry about picking up drops or any of that. It's pretty inefficient, and I doubt many people have actually gone through with it after they started to realize how long it takes to use 32k knives. Sand_Hill
So Rune Crossbow with broad bolts after 70? I have some money I can play with so I don't feel like being cheap and using 32k bronze knives :wall: I think I can do that. Thanks everyone! Dazzuh
32k bronze knives to what? :/ Anyway, currently i'm ranging at Ogre Cages. I'm 86 Ranged and i'm using bronze knives, i tried using bone cbow and bolts but bronze knives are twice as fast on the ogres. I get about 50k exp/hr, which isn't great but i've made some good friends here and am constantly chatting. If you feel like coming by to train, i'm going to be there til i get 90 (a good few days), just go Rogue's Den, buy some cheap 14gp each bronze knives, get yourself to the caged ogres at world 83 and join the fun/grind. :D Currently not active on RuneScape. I don't know what game you are playing, but knives are faster than anything else on monsters with low defence (Yaks, Experiments and Ogres)
