Yes it would work, you need about 3gps for every xp you want. 95-99 will cost you 13m Your 80 range now, and you earn about 11gp for every xp (well i do at 99 range don't know about lower level). So for 80 - 95 you will earn 73m. So you will still have like 60m left over if you do avainse to 95 then chin to 99 :

You get xp per amulet and its runes per amulet not per inventory.. You use 2 astrals + mud staff = 1 amulet = 83xp So you loose 2 astrals per 83xp :

Per real hour, or hour of game time? I can make 90m per hour of game time merchanting But if hour of real time, around 1m an hour seems to be the benchmark for best.

I suggest you read more guides before doing it again. I have never seen anyone solo mage with supreme on them before.. nice drop though 10/10 for luck (since it looks like it was your first and only kill)
