Runescape HD

Hi all,

I've tried to play runescape HD, but I was lagging a lot and was barely able to move. I've had problems with playing things in full screen for a while now, so I decided it would be good to update my computer.

I currently have:

Processor - Intel® Celeron® CPU 3.06GHz

Memory - 1024MB Ram

Graphics Card - Intel® G965 Express Chipset Family 256MB

So, what should I upgrade? My computer is a Dell, if that helps, and my budget is about 100-200, preferably closer to 100.

If you need any more information, just ask.

Yes, I have done that all, and it works fine. The only problem is, it's incredibly laggy.

I've had problems like this with halo, counterstrike and rollercoaster tycoon 2 too, so I guess it's my computer.

Try playing RS, and then open up task manager, and take a screenshot of your processes/cpu/ram usage?

Is that what your going to tell ever one to do "take a screenshot of taskmgr"? I'm sure it get rather annoying to them when this really isn't going to help and it is sometimes a rather long list and may take several screenshots.

Ah, perfect, that actually helps alot, What version of Firefox are you running?

EDIT: @Sloter. its better than posting on topics to get your post count up without actually trying to help the poster solve their problem

Well, the point isn't really that I can't play rsHD. There's also a lot of other things I can't really play well.

Can we focus on upgrading my computer instead of HD?

As will be said many, many times; Quality > Quantity. Just because you want a higher post count won't make your information any more useful or believable. A friend of mine put it a good way: "Increasing the size of your post count does not increase the size of your...motherboard." (To be polite. You can probably work out what I mean though ;) ).

Back on topic, I'd recommend just upgrading the graphics card, and your pc should be fine. My main pc has similar specs (3.2GHz P4, 1GB RAM, 256MB ATI Radeon X600), and I can run the game fine with all settings turned to high bar Anti-aliasing which is set to 2x. If you want to upgrade your graphics card, but don't want to spend as much, a Nvidia Geforce 8600GT should be fine. Also bear in mind the game will be laggy this week, as it has just been released to f2p, which means there are going to be a few million people downloading the required files.

His GPU should be fine IIRC. Download the latest Java drivers and intel drivers (for your video card) and see if it makes a difference.

If not there are several choices (depending if you run PCI/AGP/PCI-E) that will not end up costing more than $35-40.

Examples?

What's the difference between PCI, AGP and PCI-E?

They're all expansion slots that come on motherboards. PCI and AGP are older while PCI-E is the newer. If your PC has been bought in, say, the past 3 years or so chances are you have a PCI-E slot.

If you're hellbent on upgrading mind telling me what model your dell PC is? It'll make it a lot easier finding a compatible video card.
