The Observer
Well, I tried the Direct3D test in dxdiag and it just kicks out. Directdraw works perfectly. Any game that requires it just kicks out also. Help? I have DirectX 8.1 (tried installing that), but it did the same with DirectX 9.0c.
Hidhaeg
I'm aware it's a bit of a bump - but late advice, is better than none. What is your graphics card? Have you updated drivers?

It seems unusual that anything related to Direct X chucks you off. Is it just high-end DX games that chuck you off? Or every one of them? Do OpenGL games function okay? There's not a lot of dust in there at all. I might check again though. I might even take out the graphics card and then put it back in again as it may not be properly seated. You never know.. All games that use Direct3D fail. Even the Direct3D test kicks out. Yes, I have been having problems with RuneScape HD which uses OpenGL. It's fine in fullscreen though, which makes absolutely no sense.

This was sort of a different problem, but I was just stating that RuneScape HD doesn't work well either.. Killer, I think these problems are linked. And for it to be this bad means it is either your Windows SubSystem, your video drivers, or the video card itself. (Personally, I'd bet on #2, but it could be #1 or #3, sad to say.) :-k ... Seeing as this is not taking windows with it, I think it probably isn't #1... Try some earlier drivers, preferably ones where your full screen games (other than RS) actually work, and let us know what you get. :geek: ~Mr. D. V. Devnull and normally with a cool mind.(Warning: This user can be VERY confusing to some people... And talks in 3rd person for the timebeing due to how insane they are... Sometimes even to themself.) Devnull RuneScape doesn't use Direct3D. ;) Well, I'll try installing different drivers. Have you been to your device manager? Yes, and it states Radeon 9600 Series and Radeon 9600 Series Secondary. Mamong
Have you tried borrowing a mates video card or going back to Integrated Graphics to rule out the video card itself? [Tip.It Mod][Retired][Add your Steam name here!]

Did you see any yellow/red exclamation marks? or anything that looks like a warning? And this is what i'd say do on an xp, but tbh, it's probably the same with 98.
