It might top the 250K mark but only if jagex really puts their minds to it with some very nice update, but with the funorb and mechscape it probably won't. 1 million players is way out of their reach.

i too doubt there will ever be 1mil player at once, but we just have to wait for the future to see.

IMO Runescape isn't going to grow anymore. It's in the mature stage of it's lifecycle where the amount of new players is starting to drop off quite a bit. It happens with all MMO's eventually, they start off small and slowly gain members, then there's a sudden rush when it becomes popular (miniclip era for RS) then gradually less new people come to the game.. everyone that is likely to be interested in playing is playing already. I don't think i've seen a significant increase in numbers playing since early-mid 2007 and it's stayed around the same since.. no real growth or decline. You can see from recent updates that Jagex has tried to attract new people in.. the graphics update was a big one, and smaller things like the improved tutorial and Lumbridge to make the game more appealing to newcomers.

 

 

 

Not that this is all doom and gloom of course, it's the natural life cycle of an MMO, and RS will be going for a good few years yet. I just don't expect anymore large scale growth like the 05-06 era.

I don't think we'll reach 1 million players. They will have to increase the number of servers and possibly increase members fee.
