Ginger_Warrior
yeah, true but when someone takes is seriously then what the heck... Depends on what context. I don't mind those sorts of jokes so long as everyone in the room realises what they're saying barely has any relevance to that minority. Achmed the Terrorist I don't mind - most people watching it realise most Muslims and Iraqis aren't terrorists. It's a satire of the terrorists' interpretation of Islam, rather than of Islam itself. And it's funny. People get picked on for their identity. It doesn't matter who you are. Likewise, I look at how vehemently Christian some people are and I instantly start thinking "mindless idiot", because the concept of religion is totally ridiculous to me so I feel they've been bought into believing something that's simply not true. OK, I'm not going to take it to the level the OP described and shout at them in public, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't hold any prejudice. I've found the best way to respond to that sort of abuse though is to have true confidence and pride in your identity. I was one of about four people in my year at high school that listened to any sort of rock. I just turned round to all the people who called me 'mosher' and said "so what?". I liked being part of the minority at high school. At the end of the day, they can only hurt your feelings if you're insecure about your identity - remove that insecurity and they can't hurt you. It's that simple really. | Favourite Game Music | Last.fm | HYT Friend Chat Rules |
Zierro
I'm always up for racist/sexist jokes. Always. Same here.. I even find redneck/white jokes funny. There's a little truth in most stereotypes - that's why they're hilarious. The jokes use hyperboles and stretch it out though. gongusan
I dress emo and yeah sometimes I get funny looks and people shouting 'Emo de mierda' which in spanish is like Emo of [cabbage] lol. (I live in Spain) Kinda lame but I deal with it. I can wear wtf I want and people can [bleep] off if they think I'm going to let them make me change who I am. :geek:I'm always up for racist/sexist jokes. Always. Then why isn't BET just like every other television station?
Anatole
BET is jus like other music tv stations, mtv was once all music now has more stupid shows then music, fuse is following in mtv's foot steps, and BET is on there way there seeing as how they play "black" sitcoms half the time or anyother of their other "tv shows" (Yes I Know I Cant Spell)
Zierro
I don't think you get my point. I'm just saying that there are certain groups of people who think similarly about some things. The majority of rappers are African American. That's a very true stereotype.

It's that simple really. Very good point. I think the thing is, I'm very confident in who I am. I'm not really emo, but I have black, striaghtened hair with an excessively long fringe, and I wear metal shirts. So when I walk down the street people often shout at me, but I take that as a good thing. Any attention is good attention sort of thing. So I tend to act based on how I think I would respond if I were in the other person's shoes, which perhaps isn't a good thing, as not everyone is as confident in themselves as I am.
