Anyways, I just got BF2 today, and i must say, its a ton of fun. Now granted, there are a few anoying bugs, but they dont happen that often and will get patched soon. Also, I wouldn't play this game with a crappy machine. Mine is 2.4ghz 1gb Ram FX5500 and I'm playing through on all low details and Medium sound quality (have a nice sound card) Most of the time i play without lag, except in big fights it can lag. So, have any of you gotten this game yet? what do you think about it. I'm Nadril in game. (TAC is my clan, for Cs:s bf2 ect.) Mr_Putter Posted June 24, 2005 Share Posted June 24, 2005 Yea I got it (I mean, what PC game don't I get?). IMO it suffers from the same massive annoyance from Vietnam. It takes like 5 miuntes to join a server, and once you're in, it takes another 2-3 for the lag to die down and you can really start playing. Once your in it's solid, but server hopping is completely out of the question. Other than that, I think it's much better than the demo. The main reason why I didn't like the demo is because of the completely wide open map, and (other than the sniper rifle) the low range guns. So basically it was a sniper/tank war, and assaulting by foot was foolish. I think they chose a poor representing map for the demo. Another thing I don't like is the fact that the stats don't update like they should. I played for 4+ hours yesterday, and it recorded only 23 minutes of it, and mind you it must of been some of my worst time. I won 3 (including the same one twice somehow) badges and it credited me with 1. Plus you can't search for other peoples stats which is stupid IMO, as well as the server listing is slow, and there's no favourites. Plus the whole commander/squad thing sounds good on paper, but people don't often use it effectively, and it's basically a massive free-for-all unless you get in a squad with friends who know what they're doing. I know I'm making it sound bad, but it's really quite good. Everything feels a lot tighter than the demo (I mean a LOT tighter) graphics do the job as does the sound. It's just really quite enjoyable, and since I got it near opening day there won't be cheating (PunkBuster can try, but it won't ever stop every cheat), and plus I got a head start on other people who will be getting it shortly and thus I can keep getting better and better. It's really a must-have for good computer owners (check your graphics card, you need ATI or nVidia made ones to run it, the more memory the better) and ifyou really enjoy massive wars, multiplayer games or a fan of the series its a given that you should get it. Yesterday our squad (a 4-5 person squad) were assaulting bases around. For example, we went to their arty guns, and just kept blowing them up so that the enemy couldn't launch air strikes. They tried sending rein's to the spot but we would waste them too fast :P After that we tried a stealth mission LOL. It was a simular map you were talking about in the demo, that the Us's base was on a carrier, so we took a boat and headed on out. Well, the stealth mission didn't go as well as planed (thanks to this one enemy who i swear was stalking us) and he killed us all. Everytime we tried it, he'd shoot a rocket at our boat lol. But the next map after that we were assaulting bases. Usualy we would take an APC over to an area, and all jump out of it. IMO, the vehicles are easy to see and destroy if you know how. So we started assaulting this one base so much that a major war started exploding in this small area! During the last few moments of it our comander scanned the area, and showed us what was there. ...at least 10 foot soldiers. Versus us 4 or so. I can say we ran the hell out of there. What i'm trying to say is the game is amazingly awsome for clan matches. Also the loading thing, my game loads up in about a minute for a map, a normal time for games like CS:S ect. my guess is you don't have much ram. And it doesn't lag unless i start getting into a heated firefight. but i'm getting a new card soon so that doesn't matter :) As far as the comander position goes, well, the comander and squads thing, don't play on the EA servers. From what a freind told me its nothing but a bunch of idiots. Andrew_001 Posted June 25, 2005 Share Posted June 25, 2005 I got the game the day before release because I pre-ordered it off a website. The actual game is briliant WHEN it is running well. Getting into a game and getting it running well are the difficult parts. I have a Pentium 4 3.6Ghz processor with HT, ATI X600 256mb graphics card, and 1gb of ram. I'm not sure what my sound card is, I think it is a soundblaster. I can still only play the game on medium settings for graphics and sound, it just about copes. I think I may need another gigabyte of ram, thats the first thing I am going to upgrade anyway. Then if necessary the graphics card and sound card, but this will be very expensive. If you want to play online on ranked servers, it is incredibly difficult. For a start the server list is incredibly slow to refesh and the filters are buggy as usual. Also, there aren't enough ranked servers, so most of them are full. It is literally a case of waiting for a spot to become available, and then trying to click to join the server before about a thousand other people that are trying to do the same thing. This becomes very irritating after a while. It sometimes takes an hour to get on a server. Even more annoying is that the EA UK servers are not ranked, for what reason I have no idea. When you get on the server, it takes a minute or two for the game to settle down. Sometimes you get disconnected really quickly too, again this is annoying. So you finally get playing, you check to see what rankings you have earned and they haven't updated. It takes ages, and some games seem to be lost and don't count. With all these down sides, this is a great game. It is worth all the hastle, I just hope they sort out some of the issues to make it a more complete enjoyable experience. When you get into a good game where people are working in squads effectively with a good commander, and the voice-over IP is working well, this game is the best in its class. Most of the time you get a server full of muppets who don't play as a team. You get the usual idiots who run out in front of your jeep going at full speed so you team-kill them and then they can punish you, causing you to lose about four points. I think that in a couple of weeks, this game will be much better to play online. There will be more servers (hopefully), and better monitoring so that you always have a good game. I've played somewhere around 10-12 hours since getting it, and it's recorded about 2.5 of them. And for some reason it only records my worst games. I'm still above in the kill:death ratio, but I should be close to doubling it. Heh, I lose my temeper really fast with those people. Like the commander on my team was...SOOOO stupid. For one he did nothing at all in the way of commanding, no artillery etc. and not to mention he yelled at us for sucking when he was like 2 kill 7 deaths and way negative team points. And the thing is our team wasn't smart enough to get a full mutiny against him. So anyways he decides he want's to shoot me with his sniper rifle (I'm glad the American sniper rifle is so awful) so I'm looking all around to see where the snipers at, and then I see him come up and chase me down, aiming right at my head, and he fires again missing. So I pumped him full of assault rifle bullets and killed him, and he says "Don't shoot me, I'm the commander" But I still want to play on ranked servers...It adds a lot more when you can see...about a quarter of your stats I guess.
