Alternative to the Windows XP Task Manager

I have had so many issues with task manager, it isn't funny. It takes 1-40 minutes to even open some days. When ever I try to end a process, it never works. I am looking for a process manager which can kill any process at any time without issues. Is there one?

You should be able to kill any process if you go to the processes tab, and not the applications tab. The load time sounds like some kind of malware, however.

I did use process tab. It just pops-ups with the end task mesage and If I click that, nothing happens.

If your Task Manager is taking that long to come up, then I think you have other problems to deal with. No task manager substitute would appear any faster than Windows Task Manager.

May I suggest you take a look at what's taking up your CPU time first?

I use process explorer myself, mainly because I prefer it to task manager.

However as Clare said, if you're having problems like that with task manager itself, you really need to find out what's wrong and sort things out.

The Windows task manager does not really kill anything if it doesn't feel like it, unlike the bash command kill (Used on Unix/Unix like systems like Linux) which utterly destroys the process. If you're really desperate and familiar/comfortable with a command line, I would maybe use a Windows port of bash like Cygwin. But that's probably going too far.

Yeah probably. I generally don't have any problems killing a process with the processes tab myself.

From what I can see there's nothing running there that would cause CPU time to get eaten up. You could try one thing, open up task manager just after you log on, and click processes and then the CPU section twice to view what's taking up CPU time, then minimize it. If you ever get slow down, you should be able to restore Task Manager quickly (Alt+TAB) as it's already running to see what's eating up your CPU time.

It says "System Idle Process" which is taking up anywhere from 80-96% of my CPU.

System Idle Process means that how much CPU is available, i.e. doing nothing. So if system Idle Process is at 100% it means the CPU is doing absolutely nothing. So 80-96% is a good thing.

Or I could scrap windows and go to linux <3.

I think that is a good idea. You could jsut reinstall windows too.

I am learning with Ubuntu. It has a nice graphical appearance. I just gotta figure out how to connect to AOL (dial-up) on it still.

Or you could run a system restore, restoring Windows to a point before it all started :)

The last point was 2 years ago =/.
