Internet keeps failing after 10 minutes... :/

Featured Replies

I'm currently on KOL (company name) dial-up (it's pretty fast for dial up.... ¬_¬) and it was working perfectly fine until yesterday.

The only difference was that I downloaded Ventrilo (this microphone chat), and my internet started being weird after about 10-13 minutes of usage, so I have to keep disconnecting and reconnection.

I've downloaded Ventrilo before and nothing bad happened then, this is a first.

I've even tried system recovery -- it's still being odd.

I went Ctrl+Alt+Delete, then I went to Networking to see how it was progressing.

The network utilization for my connection becomes 0% when it stops working suddenly, but it's supposedly still "Connected".

What the deuce?

You downloaded Ventrilo from the official site (http://www.ventrilo.com/) for it, right? Also, does your ISP have anything against voice chat clients? And did you make a backup of your system before installing such a heavy item? It may have messed with some of the computer's critical system files. :-s

In that case, could you please post your system specs? And a 'HiJackThis Log' that some of the more experienced users in T&C can look at? Also, have you scanned your PC for viruses/malware/spyware? :?

In case you're curious, having all of that info to view may help. Thanks in advance. 8-)

It could very well be the ISP. Have there been any storms or some construction in your area? It might help calling your ISP and asking, maybe they're having some problems...

That's part of it... There is still more info I'll need to see, which is why I asked for an HJT Log. (BTW, Caxis has posted the proper link to it, shortly before I got this message up. I'm at hope the info it can provide will tie everything together.) :geek:

Possibly, unless someone sabotaged your PC, as well as the secondary one... Say, for example, with something that will kill your connection if you try to play on RuneScape. :( ....... Also, check with your ISP to see if they're having problems, and/or filtering your traffic for some stupid reason. (Such as your parents asking them to, which would be kinda mean.) :-k

I would talk with your ISP before anything, dial up isn't exactly known for being reliable.

Critical item? :| It's ventrilo. Not every problem is something drastic D_V.

Yeah, I think I'll call up my ISP (couldn't because it was weekend/labour weekend).

Thanks, I'll post on any changes when I've called them up.

Critical item? :| It's ventrilo. Not every problem is something drastic D_V.
It still has to get into certain system hooks and such to do what it does while you're playing a full-screen (or other heavy non-full-screen) game, though. And something like that usually requires messing with system files, last I knew. :?

I called the ISP, and they said it could be

1) My computer

2) My cords

I said, "No, it can't be my computer because the same thing happens when I use the internet on my other computer."

"Then it's your cords. You need to get new ones. Are you using extensions? You should only have one cord that connects directly from your phone modem to your computer."

"... okay. Thanks.. bye."

There has been a bit of rain recently, but nothing major -- it's all clear now.

I think that what could be doing that is Norton. It's one of the many reasons that I call Norton a virus, since I have seen some computers that it was norton's firewall or something blocking you from going to the internet.

You should get NOD32 or Avira.

Im looking for some No Limit soldiers!

I think that what could be doing that is Norton. It's one of the many reasons that I call Norton a virus, since I have seen some computers that it was norton's firewall or something blocking you from going to the internet.

Don't think that would explain why the same problem occurs on my other computer. (it doesn't have norton)

Then I think it would be the ISP's cords :S

After numerous phone calls and no solutions from the phone company and ISP company...

My sister said, "Hey! Maybe it's that phone that mum installed on friday."

And they disconnected the phone from the wall... AND THE INTERNET WORKED.

Phone's always messed up my dial-up when I still used it. Get broadband as soon as you can.(Dial-up for some reason was faster than the bigpond broadband I used to use. :| )

You're welcome. Although, TBH, we didn't really help that much, just looking back at everything that has happened. Why? In the end, it was an external issue, and not something in the PC itself. :anxious:
