NuZzA's TECH BORDER TUT!

Featured Replies

Ok, in this tut, I'll be showing you how to make awesome tech borders just like the one below:

Tech2.png

Ok, lets start:

1. Create a new document in photoshop to whateva size you desire. I've chosen 300X150

1.png

2. ok now create a new layer, we'll call it "border1" and fill it in with black ("alt-backspace" on the border 1 layer)

2.png

3. now use the polygonal lasso tool (located next to the magic wand) and cut out a design that you're happy with. Remember to always hold down "shift" whilst cutting out to keep nice 45 degree lines and give it that "tech" look.

3.png

4. once you are happy, press the "delete" button on your keyboard. this should give us the bace of our border. then hold down "alt-D" to de-select your border.

this is what i have so far:

4.png

5. ok now to start cutting out your borders design. Use the polygonal lasso tool to make a few shapes into your border, don't rush it, as it may take some time.

TIP: zoom in close to get the fine details of the border

also, use your arrow keys when doing the multiple ingravements to get equal spacings inbetween each one.

5.png

6.png

6. If you want, you can repeat all the steps again to create another border behind this one(name the layer "border2"). But if you do so, only create parts of the border to go behind it, and don't put too much work into it.

yes i know i looks weird, but it will get much better

7.png

7. ok now for some detail to finish it up. on the layer "Border1" right click on it and go to "blending options" now incert these layer styles:

8.png

9.png

10.png

11.png

12.png

13.png

8. IF you did a second border, right click on the layer "Border1" and select "copy layer style" and the right click on "border2" and select "paste layer style"

14.png

9. If you want to add some colour to it, go to the blending options again and select "colour overlay" then make it the colour of your choice.

15.png

so finishes my tutorial, oh and the finished product...

16.png

Of cource i needs a background, a bit of brushing and a few colour balance layers should so the trick.

like this...

looks great BUT one peice of advice...

once you make your first selection for one of those boxes in your border or one of these:

/|_|_|_|_|_|_|_|\

use the arrow keys to move the same selection accross and pressing the delete button every 3/4 spaces. (or untill there's a good even gap in-between each [bleep]e) This will help it look more even and give it a better feel...

(if u get what i mean)

finalsampled4my.png

yeah that would look a lot better, thanks, ill try that on the next one i make :D

i made this tut from scratch, took the screen shots my self (check my photobucket) and i did not use another tut as reference. I made it

finalsampled4my.png

Its a nice tut, I'll start making tech borders now!

komododabst3cn.png

i dont care if u made it from scratch, it is a very simple effect to achieve. overall i give u a 7 for feedback, only becuase it was easy to follow and put together nicely.

What about this one?

Got any further tips for it?
