I'm at lvl30 range now. How much defence, attack, strength and such skills should I have to correspond that, being a ranger? I've killed cows to attack and str10, and def 20. Is this ok to go on with quests like Demon, Dragon slayer etc.?

 

(I realise I need range 40 for dragon armor)

You should have no problem with demon slayer (with silverlight, he seriously dies in ~2 hits). Dragon slayer puts you against a level 79, so you might want to keep training for that one. Players have done it in iron armor with combat levels in the 40s so it's not terribly difficult though.

I read the ranged guide in beginning guides and like it, but it stops at lvl20. I hope it will be finished :)

 

 

 

1-10 chickens

 

10-20 cows (north of lumb, bank hides and meat in deposit boxes, cook and eat some if you have to)

 

20-40 minitours (underneath barbarian village, they drop lots of iron arrows, you'll end up with more than you started)

 

40-50 hill giants (crowded, but being ranger you should be fine; good prayer xp)

 

50-60 moss giants (crandor is great, bring alchs, pick up steel bars, runes, coins) use iron arrows

 

Get members at 60. Void recomended.

 

60-70 moss giants (due to herbs, seeds, and key halves, you'll make much more money as p2p) use steel arrows or knives of choice

 

70-80 CHOICE; fire giants for speed or ankous for profit. Could to avansies rather then ankous, another choice, avs make more, but I liked ankous

 

80-90 CHOICE; fire giants/monkey gaurds for speed or avansies for profit (to be spent on chins)

 

90-99 CHOICE; monkey gaurds or chinning monkey zombies (large cost, but fast xp)

 

 

 

The best set up for members is full void, amulet of fury > glory, ranger boots > snakeskin, unholy book > garbage, archer ring, with rune crossbow & broad bolts (55 slayer req) or knives.

Well, considering that he is a self-confessed newb I think that would mainly just confuse him. I don't know if you are a member or not. I suggest getting all of your combat-oriented skills up if that character will be the one you are going to be using mainly. Cows are perfect to do this as they can pay pretty well for F2P as well. After 40 range becomes a dry arid desert of updates. At 60+ it's pretty much useless to train(there's pretty much no point, the only differences is in slight amount of damages). I personally suggest getting your defense up a good bit, as, not only do you need it for the armour, it gives all around defense bonuses, allowing you to last longer at more dangerous training spots.

Do I get more xp from a lvl 13 goblin than a lvl 5 goblin, or is it just that it takes more hits to kill it that gives me more xp?

Now when you are fighting always fight something that you can kill easily. Its not good to struggle with a creature and wastes tons of food to kill it. Think about if u fight a strong creature use up ur food quickly and go to bank... u waste so much time when u can rather be making more kills for better xp. At your level i strongly suggest just sticking to cows. Combat levels dont matter much to npcs and cows r great xp! + bank the hides for money :thumbsup:

You my friend are not the only one who had this problem starting out. I had NO idea what I was doing in the game till I met someone while I was mining Pure Essence with a bronze pick axe when I could clearly use Mith. I had no idea about the different picks. So I was talking to this person and they asked me what my lvls were and I told them and they asked me why I was using bronze still. They then explained to me why and was nice enough to help me get one. They also helped me out with combat because like you I didn't know how to train the other combat styles.

 

 

 

You're lucky to have found tipit so early in your RS life because it will teach you allot about whatever you want to know. The RS Knowledge Base is helpful to but there are allot of things that Jagex like's to leave out that Tipit is kind enough to fill in those holes. GL
