I have a maxtor 320 Gig hard drive. It has been working fine until now, I restarted my computer because some programs froze and now it wont work. My computer wont recognize it. The light turns on and it beeps every few seconds. Im running windows xp if that helps. Any ideas?

You know i have had the exact same problem with a maxtor 320 external drive. I ripped the hard drive out of it and popped it in another computer and transferred the files over my network to a new one.

I really don't know to be honest with you. If you have to i would just buy a second hard drive and put that internally in your computer though.

After about 5-10 minutes it will stop beeping and the "safely remove hardware" button will come up in the lower left hand corner or the screen. I'm still not able to access the files. When I click safely remove hard where it shows the name of my hard drive. :?

Possibly get a power surge or uneven power to it? That is what ruined mine.

I hate to post off-topic...But, you play I Wanna Be the Guy to? :o I got to the level with Mike Tyson, and can't get passed that. Frustration games ftl. :wall:

Ive beaten six of the bosses. :D Still working on it.

Bleh, it says I have the software for the device installed and it recognizes its there after like 10 minutes but I cannot access the files or have a way to open it. :wall:

You might try uninstalling the drivers and software that came with it and getting updated versions from Maxtor. 7/1/2001 is a little old :lol: Also try it on another computer to see if the problem persists

It doesnt work on other computers and the driver come already installed on the device.
