You'd probably be better off ranging. This is close to a bank, so you can bank everything. Use the best bob you can, broad bolts (with mith (e) to poison), and bank everything. IMO you're better off blocking them though. Anyway, black dragons SUCK for charms. In which case, did you men black DEMONS? Cause I tried killing them in Taverly Dungeon ( my first and last time I did that task) and i lost money. Maybe its a Chaos Tunnel thing. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't, you're basically hoping to get lucky with rune chain drops. I imagine on average you'd come out with a loss.
