is anyone sure if when you have a pvp item that is degrade and you die and lose it if you get the added potential, or do you lose all its value after it is degraded?

I'm not sure what your saying here but it seems like your asking if when you die with a degraded item is it restored to its orginal condition? The awnser to that would be no.

Does it really matter whether I was right? #-o
This is Tipit. There is nothing more important than being right.

Common sense is nothing more than a deposit of prejudices laid down in the mind before you reach eighteen.

not what im asking,(notes the 'lose') im asking if it counts toward your future drop potential if you lose it

By drop potential you mean towards another pvp drop?

If you have a pvp item that you bought or got yourself, degraded or not, it doesn't add to your chances of getting another one. Also once you die in a pvp world all your drop potential goes away.

Edit: Sorry thats completely wrong, you keep your potential if you die, but I'm sure that losing a pvp item does nothing to your drop potential.

Instead of adding the bit at the end, you could just amend your first statement. Also, you gain potential afetr dying to accomodate your loss. Jagex posted this after the initial update in their first clarification thing, if I remmber correctly.

Items that you die with do not add to your potential as such.

I'm not sure if losing a Pvp item increases your drop potential, but according to Jagex and personal experience, Losing items in Pvp increases your drop potential. I used to do the 75k trick and i got PJ'd by a d claw and lost about 4m in all(i had a skull). Almost instantly after that, i got a d chain followed by d square shield and corrupt vesta long.

Note that if you die, your potential drop value will increase to compensate you for your loss, but it won't get you the value of your lost items - it's not a sensible way to get good drops!
