OT: I like to consider myself a good speller, but I know I wouldn't be able to even compete at The Scripps Spelling Bee. I lol'd at the kid that feinted that one year though.

My older sister Liz was in the Scripps Spelling bee... at city level. When she found out she was going to get to participate she started freaking out, terrified she'd win because she knew my family couldn't afford to go with her to DC. ("But what if I WIN???")

She had nothing to worry about, she did last 4 rounds but that was it.

In 5th grade I went to the county Spelling Bee and got 3rd place, and then I got 2nd place in my middle school for qualifiers, but the 1st place person (my good friend Megan), picked someone else to go in her place. Which still annoys me, and I still bring up at least once a year. I wanted a chance to redeem myself for 5th grade's measly 3rd place.

I was runner up in the spelling bee in 4th grade, lost to my best friend.

She's won every year that I can remember.

The 81st Scripps National Spelling Bee took place on May 30, 2008.

Champion

The winner was Sameer Mishra, a 13-year-old eighth grader at West Lafayette Junior-Senior High School, in Indiana. He was sponsored by Journal and Courier of the same town. His winning word was guerdon. He won $35,000 in cash and more than $5,000 in prizes.[1]

In rounds 3 through 15, Mishra spelled "demitasse", "quadrat", "diener", "hyssop", "macédoine", "basenji", "numnah", "chorion", "nacarat", "sinicize", "hyphaeresis", "taleggio" and "esclandre" correctly, in that order.

In a comical moment during the spelling bee, he mistook the word "numnah" for "numb nut" and sarcastically asked if there were any "alternate pronunciations."

Note: Mishra incorrectly spelled "sudation" in Round 2. (He spelled it as "sudatian.")[2] However, a speller's combined score from Rounds 1 and 2 determines whether he or she advances in the competition; thus, a speller can incorrectly spell a word in Round 2 without being eliminated. Single-elimination only begins in Round 3.

I would always participate in spelling bee's when I was in elementary school, and I would make it to the second competition, but then lose on like the first word everytime.

i always ended up getting into the school spelling bee, and i'd always be really nervice.

and if i got an easy word when i was expecting a hard word, i'd say it too fast, and screw it up. but im too old to be in any spelling bees now.
