No more video adverts?

Jagex has only 140 staff in the customer service department imagine the millions of reports/offense appeals they have to go through.

 

 

 

Explain what other way. We would of known about it. They proved they are a company by adding funorb and increasing the cost of membership.

They care about the customers, so if cutting ads meant less updates, that would defeat the purpose of cutting the ads, so its obviously the right thing for them.

I liked the removal of the video adverts mostly because sometimes when I press the "skip" button my keyboard does not respond so I cannot type anything and must refresh the page. Also sometimes happens if I click out of the screen. Waiting for 10 seconds isn't bad at all though, its like counting down a rocket launch. 10 seconds until success, or epic fun. If you don't like adverts, suck it up. Jagex has to make money some way, and if they don't put ads, runescape would collapse, meaning no F2P at all.

I dunno, some people might be impatient, but they should suck it up. Whats wrong with an ad, as if you don't see hundreds of these on TV, Public buildings, other websites, etc. Or ...maybe they might be too excited to wait to play RS, but the add does help support RS...

Why do you care if other people have more fun playing the game if it doesn't detract from your experience? Do you think it would be a good idea to, say, change Varrock to a members-only area? "Oh, they're f2p, they can just pay the $6 if they want to go to Varrock!" Because it seems like your opinion of f2p is that they don't deserve to play the game unless they fork over the membership fee.

They remove some ads, it doesn't affect the amount that comes from memberships, or the ads that are still there. F2P still has ads, all they removed were the ones that you had to watch because you could only play the game if you did.

The thing is, the new ads WERE working - not only were they generating significant revenue, they were probably causing people to buy members. Think about it from a business perspective - why should Jagex give up profit and updates to make a bunch of freeloaders happy? The only reason it could be is hopes of good publicity, they aren't in this for the feel good factor.

If more ads = more revenue = always good for us, why stop at video ads? Jagex could put advertisements in the member's version of the game as well. Even more money. And it's not disruptive enough to be much of a sacrifice, right? I take it you would support such an action, or is an ad only a good thing if you don't have to look at it?

Good publicity can do quite a bit for a business. People do tell others about good actions...

I don't think they removed these ads for the general f2p community but more so for new-comers to the game. More seasoned f2p'ers would hardly care about there being a 10 second ad or not, it isn't going to stop them from playing on an account they've spend so much time on. When you start off though, any little thing can turn you off from the game. Instead of annoying a newbie with ads they try to get them hooked to RuneScape by making it a pleasant experience. They probably already have a plan to make up for this lost revenue anyway.
