70kyews Posted February 12, 2009 Share Posted February 12, 2009 A lot of free players told us they found our video adverts before the game annoying to the point it was putting them off playing, so we've scrapped them with immediate effect. We now appreciate that it can be frustrating having to sit through a video advert when you just want to play RuneScape, so we have to put our hands up to admit we made a mistake and say that we're sorry. To be completely candid with you, video adverts generate significantly more revenue than other adverts, but as one of our fundamental philosophies is that having fun is more important to us than making as much money as possible, we have removed video adverts from the game. This is ridiculous. F2P DOES NOT PAY JAGEX IN ANY WAY, other than the ads. He clearly stated that video ads generate significantly more revenue than other ads. Plenty of (not all) F2P players are constantly whining about the lack of updates for F2P. And now that JaGex comes up with an idea to bring in more profits in order to be able to update both F2P and P2P more frequently F2P is whining about it. I don't get it. LOL. This could take a while. I agree with the poster. FTP can whine about it all they want, but if Jagex is earning money off of it they should keep it that way. If it was any longer, I would have punched a kitten. That kind of ad is inhumane... Before you flame, look at my highly P2P stats ;) This sounds like just another 'f2p doesn't pay, they deserve ads' crap thread, though. Feel free to disagree... It's a step ahead, shows that they would try to keep the customer satisfied for less profit. That's the kind of thing that a lot of the rants on various fansites are. But no runescape has a free to play and a pay to play. Those you play free thats great but you should feel lucky just to be able to. FTP compain they dont get alot of stuff. They have to deal with ads. Well you know what Jagex has done more for FTP in the past year then in years before that and still they complain. If they didnt complain about the ads now maybe they would get more. Maybe Jagex could make a small amount off them to help improve there game. Persoanlly im pay to play and if Jagex wanted to put in video adverts on Pay to pay to increase money so be it as long as i get more content. So please understand. Click Me!!!!! Sorry, but f2p still deserve a fun game even if they don't pay, video adverts lag far to much for some players, and as far as I'm concerned jagex is probably better off being nicer to players in general. Jagex is obligated to keep their players happy to some extend. Not because they care for the players that much, but for their profit. They wouldn't just have removed the video ads just because a few people complained. I bet they investigated this to see whether video ads influence the amount of people playing. No business is just going to give up a fair share of profit. Also, I don't see why the topicstarter would care that much. I don't see how it affects anyone on P2P. Why can't F2P people play the game in a normal way? Without video ads slowing the game down and what not. Video ads are pretty unusual. Or If I logged out again to switch worlds, still yet another? Oh, and when 1/2 the ads were for FunOrb, don't tell me those ads were making Jagex money. And quit dogging about how Jagex's goal is to make money, and when they don't, you're unhappy for them. You're not Jagex, give it a rest. And if you were Jagex, you might understand that the video adverts, while in the short run made "significantly more money", in the long run could have caused less from people quitting or becoming disinterested in the game. All Jagex want to do is make F2P interesting and appealing to new players so that over time they may too pay for members, it's not helpful to have to watch a 10 second add everytime you log in. So... the same thing that you said could be said back at you: "IT'S LESS STAFF OMG QUIT WHINGING" How do you know they get less income because of the video ads? What if they have another way?
