tttia
I guess I don't recall any inhumanely talented ones that you would find on the big sites. But we do have a few in the intermediate range. Those that have some talent do check in now and again. And it is not hard to find them on DA, Cg talk etc. The main thing is that this board is just not that conducive to posting that kind of work, primarily because of the pixels etc. That is what the market is, and that is what people want. There is nothing wrong with that. It just means there is less room on the boards for other things.
misterxman
Ttttia pretty much summed up the main reasons why the pixel craze has been running for over a year as far as I can remember (I started last July). Pixel artists, along with any other type of artist, can't be generalized because some do pixel for different purposes, in different styles, and such. There's no sign that says "childish pixelart is noobish pixelart" because it's just one of many styles in pixelart. Just because people draw cartooney or non-detailed does not mean they can't do better, they just choose to do it that way. For example, I'm well aware that my pixel style is cartooney, and it was my choice to do so because the buyers like it for its very expressive means in characters and simple but colorful portrayals of BG's. Yes I do pixelart mainly because it's good Runescape GP, but I still have respect for art mainly because pixelart is the last thing that comes to my mind when I think of my own art. I wouldn't have started had I not seen it in the tipit media board, and it was right up my alley - drawing and runescape. It's either mining for a billion years to make some gp, or use what I know to make a sig for someone who wants one and is willing to pay for something he can't do but would be happy if he owned. As said before, selling sigs in RS could be considered just a roleplaying of some king buying a portrait representing his success in the game from an artist trying to "make a living" in the game. This craze did bring a lot of "pixelers" who haven't had any previous drawing skill (which I think really helps, if not required), bringing forth a large number of low quality work due to easy access to MSpaint and such. At least they tried but hopefully people will realize wether they should do whey can or can't do. Pixel sigs by me.Pixel Art
Ryan
Tip NEVER had any talented artists. The moment people became talented, they either left, or stopped posting their stuff here. Also, don't tell me that you were speaking of the Abstract Artists. Every abstract posted on this forum were/are usually just a tangled mess of splines or noised up teapots with a little photoshop icing on the top. You know, the type of stuff you do when you suck. I'd rather enjoy carefully mapped out scenes of drawn-artwork before I would look at some crap that was done 75% by a computer. Modeled abstract is good.. but i've never seen it around here. Dear God, please dont make me start again. Ive gone into depth recently that not all abstract artists are filter whoring cloud rendering nubs. I refrain to post my renders again due to the lack of time. And dont generalize that you have never seen any good artwork here other than pixel artwork because that is a slap in the face to me; who I might add has actually purhcased Photoshop CS2 and has had experience with Photoshop since v6. Edit your post before I keep flaming because I most definately will. You seem a little too conceited for your own good. Subdivi knows about the abstracts in which people make their own renders and then edit in PS. That was exactly is point though. He wasn't talkinga bout the cloud/filter pile abstracts that your brought up. I don't care how good you think you are, but everyone and their mom with a little practice can go into a 3d program, put some noise on a teapot or sphere and then brush some in PS. Stop saying it's just a slap in the face to you, I saw your work and many people here have posted just as good of stuff. Venomai has abstracts just as good as yours. Firefreek has posted abstracts much better. Yes, pixels will never go away because they aren't a craze. If I could ever get good at it I have an alternative to pixels that will probably catch on and even things out, I just suck at the moment
