I'm very near my short term goal of 95 defence. As such I am rewarding myself with either summoning or prayer XP. It is prayers turn for a boost (80 currently), but I am within sniffing distance of 88 summoning (86). I believe I will have enough charms for 88 but certainly not for 90 (which is what I really want).

 

 

 

So my question is what are the uses of a unicorn for a day to day slayer?. I seem to be doing fine without and if it isn't that much of a help then I will get prayer to 85. I know unicorns rock at GWD, but I won't be doing this until maxed melee, by which point I will have charms for 90 via slayer.

Unicorns are the best healer via scrolls healing 15% and a right click ability to cure poison and disease.

 

 

 

For non-boss combat it can be fairly useful if you want efficient healing when you want without the cost of food or relying on guthans and bunyips/fruit bats

 

 

 

Personally from what I've heard for large slayer tasks of high end monsters where guthans and a bunyip just can't cut it to stay up with healing the unicorn is great for tanking through the entire task and maybe banking once or twice due to drops instead of 4 or 5 times for food

 

 

 

Basically its down to a simply choice:

 

 

 

For end combat would you rather keep shelling out food or would you prefer to invest in some unicorn slaying and get the best healer in-game

To be honest, it seems as if you answered your own question, OP.

 

 

 

One of the few practical uses out there for a Unicorn is GWD/Boss hunting. If you won't be doing that until a while from now, there's no need to get it. Stick with prayer, max your combat, then get the Unicorn. Bunyip is suitable for 90% of the slayer tasks you'll be challenged with anyway, whereas a Unicorn is overkill.

Definitely. I can afford both just need the charms for 90.

 

 

 

I just wondered if it was worth speeding up my summoning so I could use the unicorn if all I'm going to do is slay until I hit 99 defence. It seems it isn't so it can wait.

Allright, that's very reasonable. Even at kbd, it's better to bring food and a lava titan / bob (if you're on ancients) than a unicorn. (I have to drop black hides when I bring unicorn, which is a big waste).

 

Have fun on 99 def. After that, all your melee xp will be "wasted" :-)

I know!

 

 

 

I will hit 95 slayer before 95 defence (just) So am forecasting 99 defence will be at about 97 slayer. Then I will break from slayer to max combat (GWD for cash, Rock Lobster for charms) and once I hit the big 138 will get 99 slayer.

The only slayer tasks that I personally use ponies on are waterfiends and wyverns. They really aren't necessary anywhere else, slayerwise.
