How to find my PSU wattage.

Featured Replies

I'm looking to install a new graphics card on my PC, which is a Dell Dimension 4600. I think my PSU is 250w from looking around the internet. Is there any way to check other than literally opening my PC? I tried running dxdiag but that didn't show it. Any similar programs I could use?

Only other way to check without technically opening up your PC would be to buy like a power detector thing, but that's pretty stupid. Chances are you are correct about the 250W PSU in your Dell however, without a dedicated graphics card there is no need for any more power.

You can open up the side and just look on the label on the side of it. It's a big box, usually at the top left of your case, where you plug the thick power cable in to. Look for a the wattage number, if you can't find it take a picture and upload it here.

Yeah, what he said. I just took my computer apart the other day and I think the wattage was right on the back of the PSU where you plug the thing in to.

With a little looking on the internet, it looks like it has a 250W power supply.

Make sure to check the amperage requirements of the graphics card. If you have a power supply that doesn't support the amperage, the card may not run at full power or even at all.

A 250w psu is underpowered for the current market, if you can, get around a 400-500w one.
