March 9, 200917 yr I'm looking to install a new graphics card on my PC, which is a Dell Dimension 4600. I think my PSU is 250w from looking around the internet. Is there any way to check other than literally opening my PC? I tried running dxdiag but that didn't show it. Any similar programs I could use?
March 9, 200917 yr Only other way to check without technically opening up your PC would be to buy like a power detector thing, but that's pretty stupid. Chances are you are correct about the 250W PSU in your Dell however, without a dedicated graphics card there is no need for any more power.
March 9, 200917 yr You can open up the side and just look on the label on the side of it. It's a big box, usually at the top left of your case, where you plug the thick power cable in to. Look for a the wattage number, if you can't find it take a picture and upload it here.

I just took my computer apart the other day and I think the wattage was right on the back of the PSU where you plug the thing in to. ~~Chaise91~~
March 10, 200917 yr Make sure to check the amperage requirements of the graphics card. If you have a power supply that doesn't support the amperage, the card may not run at full power or even at all.
March 10, 200917 yr A 250w psu is underpowered for the current market, if you can, get around a 400-500w one.
