jaa_master
from summoning guide, beginner's walkthrough, right below the table: At level 16 you have reached the peak efficiency for using gold charms as a beginner - making Granite crab summoning pouches using iron ore to earn 21.6 xp each. Gold charms do not come into use again until level 40 (requiring marigolds!), so you will want to make granite crab pouches from gold charms for quite a while. gold charms do "come into use again" before level 40, in fact they are used for the very next pouch! (see your own pouches table below) furthermore: the mosquito pouches (while the Proboscis are more expensive if you buy them, and take longer if you farm them) give more than 2x the xp-per-charm (46.5 instead of 21.6) and only require 1 single charm! -- which makes them far more 'efficient' for use of gold charms as a beginner... [edit] also: since proboscis are stackable, it means you dont have to make any bank trips while using them! [/edit in an unrelated note]http://www.runescape.com/kbase/viewarticle.ws?article_id=2379[/url]) indicates that the amount of XP for each type of shade also varies based on what type of pyre log was used -- i havent had a chance to test this in-game myself however

[/edit] in an unrelated note: in the prayer guide, it indicates that burning each type of shade gives a different amount of xp, while the jagex guide (http://www.runescape.com/kbase/viewarticle.ws?article_id=2379) indicates that the amount of XP for each type of shade also varies based on what type of pyre log was used -- i havent had a chance to test this in-game myself however Your first point is a valid one, but the cost for exp is far greater when making those pouches then when making granite crabs. You could (depending on ge prices) get about 6 granite crabs for the cost of the proboscis. With gold charms being in plentiful supply its far more cost effective to make granite crabs. The second point requires you to look at the guide a bit more indepth. To save space on the prayer guide tip.it reduced the table to include what I would guess as the average. If you look at there Split bark Armour guide (link) then you'll see the full table. jaa_master
cost per XP is not greater if you get your own... as i mentioned, it is longer or more expensive, but definitely worth the extra considering you get more per charm as i mentioned a year ago, when i was helping with the updates to that guide after the rebalancing, you may want to leave the recommendation to crabs, but certainly need to clarify that it is neither the highest gold till bull ant, nor is it the most efficient use of gold charms at the lower levels (even if it is the most efficient use of money -- though it isnt even that if you get your own proboscis) for some of us, gold charms are much much harder to get then either the proboscis or the money to buy them, further, the fact that they are stackable means using them is also much faster since (if you scroll them) you can do thousands in a single bank trip
essiw
an other thing to change: This is not recommended for gold charm pouches, which require very few charms, but in most cases the value of shards he gives is more than the hi alch value of the pouch. shouldn't is be: This is not recommended for gold charm pouches, which require very few shards, but in most cases the value of shards he gives is more than the hi alch value of the pouch. http://sign.tip.it/1/2/79/260/essiw.png Retired item crew I would like to be credited as essiw at the website update & corrections forum. Wachtwoord
Wisse, I fixed your submission. jaa_master, I didn't change yours because probiscis (sp?) are so much more expensive it isn't really an efficient training method for those lower levels. Remember, most people who look at our guides for training methods are pretty low level themselves and won't be able to afford such an expensive method. As for the prayer thingy, JoeDaStudd gave the answer already.
