I've never heard of sprinters using their heels. Ha, dude. You can train speed! My dad use to run a 4.5 40 anyway, so I guess I have the genetics. The 40 isn't the best way to test general sprinting speed- the 100 or the 200 are the real ones for that (past 400 and endurance becomes a heavy factor). The 40 puts a heavier weight on quickness and reaction time, skills that honestly shouldn't factor in to what we call "speed". They're... different. You can have a faster 40 than someone and it's still possible for them to catch up to you in a straight run. I'm just getting some ideas anyway, it's not like I'm going to try every single idea out! And of course I won't ever be as fast as Usain Bolt, I'd have to be crazy. It was hyperbole, kind of a politcally correct way of saying "black guys still gunna be fasta den you". Form can be trained but there has to be some kind of plateau. Romantically acting like there isn't one is just misleading. And plus the 100-meter is almost as long as a football field (I think it's actually longer), so it'd be kinda weird to run more than what you're suppose to. Promise Posted March 20, 2009 Share Posted March 20, 2009 Neither have I till this years new sprinting coach. I take his word for it, he won Hawaii's fastest man 5 years strait, and when was 35ish. I've been averaging 3rd place in the 100, so I'm fine with it. I agree with rebdragon about the 40. The 40 is too short to show anything but acceleration. Try running the 400 competitively. It becomes a whole new ball game and shows how much speed endurance you have. But then again like you said, there is a difference between track, soccer, and (American)football. I'd actually have to disagree and say that the 100m shows acceleration just as much as the 40 yard dash. But, make no mistake, it's still a speed event. Bah. I'm getting excited. I've never heard of sprinters using their heels. Well, I wasn't a great runner, sprint or distance (I was medium distance), but I beat a good few folks, and I ran heel-clicking. But that's also because I had a really bad club foot when I was little, and I used to run completely flat-footed. I'm probably back to that, haven't gone running in a while.
