Computer Problems

Recommended Posts

Yeah, I posted a "building computer" thread at the beginning of summer, but my funds were a little redirected and so at the moment I'm still stuck with my [cabbage]ty comp.

Anyway, for like 6 months now my monitor has been going haywire. It's really weird and hard to describe, but it like gets these transparent bars that go horizontal and they flash up and down the screen distorting it. Somtiems there's a lot of bars, sometimes they're shaking. No I'm not high during the time

Yesterday, the power went out and with a reboot my comp came back on but it said "Auxilary device not functioning (keyboard). Hit f1 to continue...." I rebooted again and it worked. Then today my mouse randomly shut off and I had to reboot again to get it to work. Both times I tried unplugging the devices before resorting to a reboot.

Much help needed and appreciated.

For the monitor, that might be electronics near it or speakers...

When I had two CRT monitors near each other they caused bars

I've always had a supsicion my cell phone was at fault?

Any other help appreciated..

First step is to determine whether your graphics card / motherboard / other components are messing up the output signal, and the screen is just displaying what it gets sent, or the screen is doing weird things with correct input. In other words: connect a different screen/monitor to your comp and/or connect your screen to another computer and see what happens.

 .

Anyways, the moniter, I would do what runesmithie said.

Hmm.. I would do what hannibal said, you know, see if it is the moniter or something else, but eh, thats a problem  .

how often does it do this? And are you doing anything in paticular when it happens, or is it just out of the blue randomly?

You can plug a monitor into a laptop usually. It should have a VGA port on the back. Do what that Hannibal character said :P. If it's your graphics card and you have integrated graphics, then it is safe to say that your mobo is dying. If you have an AGP/PCI/PCIE vid card, then I'd replace it (duh). If it's the monitor then (you guessed it) replace it.

Also, try moving your speakers away from your monitor. If speakers aren't magnetically shielded, then they can cause all sorts of interference in displays and sometimes trigger hard disk corruption.

* Slaps bttf man. :P

But yeah. A laptop should have a vga port on the back. It might be troublesome to get the laptop to actually /use/ this vga-output instead of its normal display, but that's the next step :D

it can be many things,

Other electronics or wireless stuff. One time i got a wireless mic and my monitor started doing close to the same thing. Also telephones will do it. when my cordless or cell is near it my monitor goes ballistic!

Bad memory (RAM) this was a problem once except my montior didnt work entirely cuz the memory wasn't compatible

Bad motherboard -

Bad Graphics card/chip - try another or the default port on the motherboard not on the agp/pci card

Bad Drivers/software - try updating/re-installing

Bad Cable - may be sending bad signals try another

Bad Monitor - test another monitor or hook up a tv and see if they work its the monitor or possibly cable if you used a different one

Try the monitor somewhere else if it works then yea its the cable or something with the computer. Now begins the proccess of isolating what part in the comp is causing it. Memory, VGA, chip, Motherboard, connectors/port/cable

Yea....good luck! :D

The part you didn't quote under it was mostly what I was trying to figure out, so I could help better.
