Skill_Caster
I know a lot of people here use mIRC, and I know I'm probably going to get flamed for asking this question, but I just want to clarify. I used mIRC before, yet when I serviced my PC I was told mIRC was causing a lot of issues, malware-wise. Not sure if this was a false positive or what, but I'm a little hesitant before downloading it again. First off, is the program itself safe? I know it's shareware, and there's a lot of definitions on that. Do I need to register it to be safe? Thanks. -Skill
Bauke
mIRC is absolutely safe. Nothing wrong with it. Millions and millions of happy users over the years. JoeDaStudd
mIRC is a chat client. Nothing more. What you do with it makes it safe or unsafe. This. Its like anything attached to the internet, if your careful and use common sense you should be fine. If you click every link and download every program something is going to go wrong. Dracion1
The program itself is safe an contains no malware at all, providing of course you get your copy off the official website. However, as far as I'm aware there exist some vulnerabilities in mIRC which other people can exploit by making you visit certain links or download certain files. Of course, if it still bothers you, you can always try a different client instead. I use xchat myself, you can find a free build for windows at silverex.org (Before you ask, yes it's safe). Another good one is Chatzilla, which is a Firefox addon. "In the beginning, the universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."
