cmeski
The fans in my current power supply seem to be going bad. They will work for 20-30 seconds (very loud) and then turn off for 30 seconds before turning back on. Unless there is a quick easy fix that someone can think of, I believe it may be best for me to get a new power supply. I was looking at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817152035. I notice that the fan is on the bottom of the power supply. Is that a problem when placing it into the top of a computer case? Also, is that large fan on the bottom sucking in air or blowing it out? Thanks in advance.
OldJoe
Before you buy anything, if you still have warranty on the PSU, check with the company if RMA is possible. cmeski
If I am unable to resolve the problems with my current power supply I would prefer to just get a new one. My current one is very loud (sounds like a jet engine) and the cables are very difficult to manage. The one I am looking at in my first post looked quiet and if the fan on the bottom sucked air, may help keep my case a bit cooler.
OldJoe
You mount the psu the way the case manufacturer says, and yes, it blows out air thru the back. Do you really need 630w? InkofDeath
There's no fan on the bottom of the cooler by the way. With that cooler they're expecting your case to have a top vent of some sort, so that cool air can be sucked in or that the hot air can be sucked out from the power supply directly out of the case. Uhm, the fan sucks in air thru the fan and out thru it's grill. Maybe i've misinterpreted your sentence. He seems to be saying the fan goes towards the top and not the bottom. My power supply is made the same way as the one he chose, and the fan is facing the inside of the case rather than the top, where it wouldn't suck any air. In the pic, they just put the fan upwards to show it I think.

That is why I am asking the question, I don't know which way it's supposed to be situated. I have already checked the manufacturers website and was unable to find anything there. No, I do not need 630w, I could get away with 500w easily but I've yet to find one around the same price, that is modular and that has some decent ratings on Newegg. If you have any suggestions, let me know :D . Anyhow, I believe you guys answered my question. The power supply sucks in air from the inside of the case, blows it out the back and the fan should be pointed downwards toward the inside of my case. Thanks
OldJoe
I wonder what type of components they've used to get such a low price. And they've done the funny thing adding the 12v rails with the 3.3 and 5 rails for "614w" lol, when it's the 12v rails that you actually use to power your heavy components (cpu, gpu etc) and that only adds up to about 450-ish watt. If the rebate stuff works as i'm assuming (you get x back after you send in some "check") i'd go for the Corsair HX520 (70$ after rebate) (don't live in the U.S so i don't about the rebate). Sbrideau
This is the power supply I have: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817812002 Cheap and very reliable. In the long while I have had it, it has worked much better than the other power supplies I have ever had.
