I think it's hard to say what the 'right' answer would've been to that mess. America's only choice, sometimes, is to watch things go to shit and try to clean up afterwards. I think even the Taliban and Saddam Hussein were elected fairly, the issue is keeping it that way. Look at Russia right now, there's riots because the guy got 140% of the votes. When Ahmadinejad got "reelected" there were also huge riots, but after about 2 weeks the media got bored, the riots may as well of never happened for the outside wold, and people started being executed.
