get rid of the ip address when u log in?

Featured Replies

i was wondering if there was a way that i could get my ip address to not show up because one of my friends was hacked and they used his ip address to get his home address and signed him up for all of these mailing lists or is there a way to get a different 1 then what u are really using to show up? :wall:

Nobody else can get hold of your ip through playing rs, it only shows up for you, unless you are letting others on your account after you have been online.

If you are posting a picture of your log in screen, edit it out in paint.

Very bad advice.

There is no point in changing your ip, it would be a massive waste of effort. It just seems as though your under-informed on how somebody gets your ip, what your ip actually is, and how people can use it.

Changing your ip will have very little effect, if do anything at all.

To be honest, the thing he is talking about, signing somebody up to tons of mail order things by tracking the ip, is a very bad idea, because alot of ip's aren't even anywhere near accurate. I think when i last looked at mine, i was somwhere in yorkshire (a long way from me).

But anyway, that's beside the point, playing runescape, and runescape solely, from what i know, it will be impossible for anybody to get your ip, short of sitting over your shoulder when you log in and looking at it, but then that defeats the point. The only way they could see that 'you last logged on from xxxxx ip', would be if you were account sharing, in which you shouldn't be doing anyway, you have been hacked, in which your ip should be the least of your problems, or you are showing somebody a picture of that log in screen, in which it is very easy to just edit the picture and black out the ip in paint.

RuneScape only shows your Hostname if I'm not wrong..

There's no way to get a user's IP through the RuneScape client. I absolutely guarantee that, 100%.

Tell your friend to stop going on random IRC/MSN/websites if he's having trouble. All of those can easily get your IP (not *that* easily from MSN, but definetly possible). But I guarantee the RuneScape client is not giving you away. Just don't go to websites or chat rooms that are third party. Tip.It is alright since the people that run it are good people and have no interest whatsover in hacking you, but just use common sense
