Mr_Adam
My computer sucks. A LOT. It can't even play RuneScape reliably/smoothly at the lowest settings. At first, I thought I would buy a better graphics card from Newegg and a) save some money, and B) learn information that will no doubt be useful, but then I realized that my computer is so bad that this probably wouldn't even be worthwhile. So I've decided to save up and just buy a new desktop PC, ready-made and manufactured, from a local chain or store (like BestBuy). I am looking for a computer that would be good for general use, as it's mostly used for iTunes/Runescape (Although I'd like to play Portal...). I would prefer a desktop over a laptop, but a laptop is not completely out of the question (laptops are better than what I have now anyways). I don't want a Mac. My budget is preferably under $500; but I could probably stretch it up to $600. If you need to/want to see my computer specs, just ask and I can put them up. Thanks in advance. EDIT: Another question, regarding video cards. I understand that more memory > less memory, but I don't understand what a system requirement will mean if it says 'Direct X level 9 Card,' or Radeon X800. Could someone please explain it? AndyPandy
If you can add the extra $30, then this: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp ... 8096181010 Decent graphics card, 8gb RAM, free W7 upgrade, 2.4ghz processor. For what you want it's more than enough, and should be able to cope well if you want to do some gaming. So don't let anyone tell you you're not worth the earth, These streets are your streets, this turf is your turf, Don't let anyone tell you that you've got to give in, Cos you can make a difference, you can change everything, Just let your dreams be your pilot, your imagination your fuel, Tear up the book and write your own damn rules, Use all that heart, hope and soul that you've got, And the love and the rage that you feel in your gut, And realise that the other world that you're always looking for, Lies right here in front of us, just outside this door, And it's up to you to go out there and paint the canvas, After all, you were put on the earth to do this, So shine your light so bright that all can see, Take pride in being whoever the [bleep] you want to be. Insanity's recommendation has better customer reviews, and no critical reviews, but Joe's suggestion has lower customer reviews and a good review from Cnet. Also, when you suggest Joe's, do you also intend for me to buy the videocard as well? PS. I edited in a question at the top that would also be nice to answer please thankyou. AndyPandy
Another question, regarding video cards. I understand that more memory > less memory, but I don't understand what a system requirement will mean if it says 'Direct X level 9 Card,' or Radeon X800. Could someone please explain it? If it says the name of a card, it just means equivalent power or more is needed. DirectX 9 for example just means you need the DirectX series 9 of APIs on your PC. I think that comes standard on XP, 10 comes standard on Vista, and sometime the autumn, 11 will be released, with even better graphic potential. So don't let anyone tell you you're not worth the earth, These streets are your streets, this turf is your turf, Don't let anyone tell you that you've got to give in, Cos you can make a difference, you can change everything, Just let your dreams be your pilot, your imagination your fuel, Tear up the book and write your own damn rules, Use all that heart, hope and soul that you've got, And the love and the rage that you feel in your gut, And realise that the other world that you're always looking for, Lies right here in front of us, just outside this door, And it's up to you to go out there and paint the canvas, After all, you were put on the earth to do this, So shine your light so bright that all can see, Take pride in being whoever the [bleep] you want to be. aspokaspofkjsopfkapo
I intended for you to buy the video card as well, they're really a snap to install and there are tons of tutorials online. Also regarding your other question: memory is king, you really don't need to worry about their direct x support.

JoeDaStudd
*cut* What's the psu? I couldn't see brand, specs or model name. That why I was a bit worried about it. Looking it the specs on there website its going to be 220W which is enough for a 4830, but doesn't leave to much wiggle room. But I like I said I'd wouldn't get anything with a 9100GS when possible. Looking over Dell's Outlet I found a nice deal (link) $609 i7 920 4gb ram 500gb hdd *cough*3450 *cough* (sucks, but I can find any reviews of the 9100GS to compare with) The extra 4gb of ram on the AMD Px4 build is more of a gimick as 99% of users won't use 4gb let alone 8gb. Yep, that card doesn't use much... Around 80-90w (stock clocks) in load. I have a 4670, 59w in load (stock clocks) and surprisingly good fps' on factory clocks too. You can push it quite a bit when overclocking. But i have no idea about the prices on that card now. Maybe he could contact Bestbuy about the psu. Your Dell deal is really great. 3450 is a better than 9100gs, but still nothing for gaming. And with a 4830 it would near 700$. Sbrideau
I would not go for Dell though, with what I've seen around where I live.
